Sad: Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr Fails To Convince Ademola Lookman To Play For Nigeria

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has allegedly failed in his attempt to persuade highly-rated Everton youngster Ademola Lookman to switch international allegiance to Nigeria.

19-year-old London-born forward Lookman, who joined the Toffees from Charlton Athletic in a deal reportedly worth £11m in January, has represented England’s Under-19s and Under-20s but is still eligible to play for Nigeria under Fifa rules.

According to Punch, Rohr and some officials of the NFF discussed with the player through his representative in England recently but could not convince him to play for Nigeria.
The German tactician, who succeeded in getting Dutch-born Tyronne Ebuehi and German-born Naoh-Joel Bazee for this month’s friendlies against Burkina Faso and Senegal, could not do the same with Lookman.

It is understood that the English FA, still seething over the loss of Moses and Iwobi to Nigeria as well as Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha to Ivory Coast, stood in the way of the move.

Daily Mail wrote earlier in the week;

“The FA are also fearful of losing Everton youngster Ademola Lookman, who was born in Wandsworth in London and has played for England at junior level, to Nigeria,”

Gernot Rohr’s Eagles take on Senegal on March 23 in London before filing out against Burkina Faso four days later.
