Commotion in Church as Nigerian Pastor Allegedly 'Resurrects' Dead Woman in the Strangest Way (Watch Video)
Pastor Chuwuemeka Ohanaemere allegedly resurrected a dead woman during church service

A video footage reportedly showing when an Anambra-based pastor allegedly raised a woman from death, has emerged online.

The General Overseer of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention Deliverance Ministry a.k.a the Land of Freedom, Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, has allegedly raised a woman from death, which has caused a controversy after the video of his church service leaked online.

The Anambra-based pastor was seen in the footage claiming to have resurrected a dead woman who two people who appeared to be her husband and possibly her sister, brought into the church during a service.

The relations of the woman were seen weeping as the pastor laid on top of the 'dead woman' and 'resurrected her'.

The members of the church excitedly ran to their pastor to show their gratitude and possibly thank him for his 'signs and wonders.'

Shortly after CNN's Global Public Square hosted by Fareed Zakaria reported on the absence of President Muhammdu Buhari from the country, another foreign media, the Washington Post has reported on the issue again.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been out of the country since May 7, seeking medical care in London.

He has not disclosed the nature of his condition, and official updates about him have been rare.

It was only last week that the government released a photo of Buhari, the first image of him since he left Nigeria.

This is Buhari’s second medical leave to the United Kingdom this year; his previous trip was nearly two-months long.

Buhari’s poor health and absence from the country raises questions about who governs when presidents get sick.

Some research I’ve done about presidential ill health in Africa – and in Nigeria specifically – shows how important constitutions can be in dealing with sick presidents.

Unfortunately, for Nigerians, Buhari’s condition is a bit of deja vu.

Everyone gets sick – even presidents – but in 2010, an ill Nigerian president died in office.

Suffering from kidney and heart problems, former Nigerian president Umaru Yar’Adua sought emergency treatment in Saudi Arabia in November 2009.

Yar’Adua returned to Nigeria in February 2010, but he died in office just three months after his return.

Following Yar’Adua’s death in office, his Vice President Goodluck Jonathan assumed the presidency, which is consistent with Nigeria’s constitution. More specifically, Section 146 of the Nigerian constitution (1999) states:

“The Vice-President shall hold the office of President if the office of President becomes vacant by reason of death or resignation, impeachment, permanent incapacity or the removal of the President from office for any other reason.”

Rules on succession following presidential death are not uncommon in African constitutions.

In an article I wrote with University of Malawi political scientist Boniface Dulani, we examined what happens when African presidents die in office.

We surveyed all deaths in office since independence and we examined closely successions following the deaths in office of Umaru Yar’Adua in Nigeria in 2010, Levy Mwanawasa in Zambia in 2008 and Bingu wa Mutharika in Malawi in 2012.

Mutharika’s death in office and the initial uncertainty surrounding succession in Malawi prompted us in 2012 to look at other African cases.

The timing was rather auspicious, as 2012 was the year when four African leaders died in office: Mutharika of Malawi, Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia, John Atta Mills of Ghana and Malam Bacai Sanhá of Guinea Bissau.

Our research identified 11 deaths in office of African leaders between 2008 and 2012.

In nine of those 11 cases, the succession followed constitutional procedures, typically the transfer of power from the leader to his deputy. (The two others were a coup d’état in Guinea in 2008 and a revolution in Libya in 2011.)

Constitutional succession is much more common today than in the period between independence and the third wave of democratization in Africa (1960 to 1990), when presidential deaths were often followed by a coup d’état or the military appointing a new leader.

Our findings are consistent with work by political scientists Daniel Posner and Daniel Young, who show that political institutions became more important than personal relationships in shaping African politics after the third wave of democratization.

Although rules about succession are important, our research showed that a leader’s death did not necessarily lead to uncertainty about succession.

Uncertainty and inaction were more likely in cases of poor presidential health.

Like in the case of Yar’Adua in Nigeria, Zambia’s Levy Mwanawasa had a prolonged absence from his country while still holding the office and responsibilities of being president.

He had a stroke in June 2008 and it is unclear whether he engaged in any governing after that stroke and before his death in a French hospital on Aug. 19, 2008.

In Nigeria – like in Zambia and Malawi – there are provisions in the constitution for when a president is too ill to carry out official duties.

For example, Nigeria’s constitution (specifically, Section 144) stipulates that the president “shall cease to hold office” if a two-thirds majority of the Federal Executive Council declares that he is “incapable of discharging the functions of his office”; such a declaration would have to be verified by a panel of five medical experts.

In our research, however, we did not come across many African examples when constitutional provisions for medical incapacity were invoked. One example emerged during Yar’Adua’s long absence: Nigeria’s senate voted on Feb. 9, 2010, to delegate presidential responsibilities to Jonathan and make him acting president.

However, there was never a declaration by a panel of medical experts that Yar’Adua was unfit to govern, and he returned to Nigeria on Feb. 24, 2010, and resumed his office and duties.

Despite the similarities between Buhari and Yar’Adua’s long medical holidays, there is an important difference.

Before he left the country to seek medical treatment, Yar’Adua did not deputize his vice president to be acting president.

Because he did not deputize Jonathan during his absence, there was a lot of uncertainty about who was in charge and even fear of a coup.

Buhari, on the other hand, deputized his vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, as acting president before he left to seek medical care.

Although the rumor mill during Buhari’s absence is just as vibrant as it was during Yar’Adua’s absence, there is no uncertainty about who is governing.

Nigerian and international media refer to Osinbajo as the acting president and report on how he is governing.

In an interview with the BBC, Nigerian Governor Rochas Okorocha was optimistic about Buhari’s recovery and forthcoming return to Nigeria, saying he expects it will happen in the next two weeks.

Nevertheless, Buhari’s prolonged absence and ill health raise important questions about who rules when a president is sick.

Although formal rules stipulate what should happen, the rules need powerful people to engage them.  [Washington Post]

Serial Bank Robber Kills His Own Mother and 2 Brothers After They Threatened to Expose His Lies to His Fiancee

Serial Bank Robber Kills His Own Mother and 2 Brothers After They Threatened to Expose His Lies to His Fiancee
Brett Ryan was willing to kill his own family to keep a secret from his fiancee Kristen Baxter

A man has killed his own mother and his two brothers after they allegedly threatened to expose his lies to his fiancee.

Brett Ryan, a 36-year-old ex-bank robber was terrified his family would expose the web of lies he told his fiancee – so he murdered his mum and two brothers using a crossbow.

According to The Sun UK, the man was engaged to Kristen Baxter despite the fact she knew about his bizarre and inexplicable stint as a bank robber.

But there was another secret he couldn’t tell her – one he considered so mortifying that when his mother and brothers threatened to expose the truth before the wedding, Ryan murdered them.

Almost a decade ago, Ryan’s break-up with another girlfriend had triggered a depressive episode that led to him to commit a series of heists in Canada disguised as an elderly man, earning him the nickname “The Fake Beard Bandit”.

But the spree was so out of character for the sweet, popular Ryan that the judge rejected the 10-year sentence requested by prosecutors and gave him just three years and nine months.

Good behaviour resulted in the Parole Board of Canada granting Ryan day release after just 15 months, noting that he did not suffer from major mental illness, psychopathy or have a history of violence.

In fact “this circumstance has reconnected you to your family”, the board wrote.

Brett Ryan was willing to kill his own family to keep a secret from his fiancee Kristen Baxter

Seven counselling sessions (a condition of his day parole) later, a psychologist treating Ryan declared that he no longer needed therapy.

“You remain a low risk for offending,” the board wrote in 2011, granting him full parole.

Just six years later, Ryan strangled his mother Susan and shot his brothers Christopher and Alexander to death with a crossbow in a triple homicide on August 25, 2016.

“The Fake Beard Bandit” was now “The Crossbow Killer”.

On Friday, the 36-year-old was sentenced to three life sentences without the possibility of parole after admitting to their murders and the attempted murder of a third brother Leigh, 38.

Kristen, a petite blonde physiotherapist, had met her future husband while he was still on parole and wasn’t fussed about dating an ex-con.

But there were still things Ryan has not been honest about. According to The Toronto Star, he told Baxter he had graduated from college in April last year when in fact he had dropped out months earlier.

He got a job at an IT company only to lose it in June 2016 when his employers found out about his bank robber past and fired him.

Unable to tell Kristen the disappointing news, Ryan simply pretended he was working from home.

The charade went on for months before Ryan’s mother Susan urged him to come clean about his job loss before his wedding, which was just one month away, even offering to support him until he could get back on his feet again.

However, she also told him that if he did not tell Kristen the truth, she would cut him off financially.

Days before the triple murders, Ryan hid a crossbow in his mother’s garage and set up an iPad and iPhone to create an electronic footprint in his home, according to police.

“Brett Ryan was worried that if his fiancee discovered the web of lies, she’d call off the wedding,” Justice John McMahon said at the sentencing hearing.

“This was a sophisticated plan to build in an alibi, although these devices were never used.”

On August 25, 2016, Ryan confronted his mother in her home and the pair had a blazing argument. When the row became too heated for comfort, Susan Ryan rang Brett’s older brother Christopher for help.

Brett retrieved the crossbow, stabbed his mom with a bolt, then strangled her to death with a yellow nylon rope, the court heard.

He laid in wait for Christopher, shooting a bolt through the back of his head when he turned up.

Brett covered the two bodies with a tarp, hid them in a garage and waited for his younger brother Alexander to show. When he did, he fatally stabbed him with a crossbow bolt.

A third brother Leigh, who lived with his mother, heard the commotion and saw Brett standing over Alexander’s body in the driveway.

As Leigh raced back inside to call police, Brett was hot on his heels. He attacked him but Leigh managed to escape to a neighbour’s house and raise the alarm.

When police officers arrived, Brett Ryan confessed to all three murders. After being charged with the attack on Alexander, Ryan responded: “I should have driven him to the hospital.”

Ryan’s life sentences for the murders will run concurrently

House of Rep Members Gang Up Against Dogara Over His Support for Buhari

House of Rep Members Gang Up Against Dogara Over His Support for Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari shakes Speaker Yakubu Dogara

Members of the House of Representatives are planning to revolt against Speaker Yakubu Dogara for turning the House into a rubber stamp for the executive arm.

A rebellion is building up in the House of Representatives against Speaker Yakubu Dogara, according to multiple sources in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, The Nation has reported.

The report claimed that members are angry over Dogara's soft spot for the Presidency as the Speaker has turned the House into a rubber stamp for the executive arm.

According to The Nation, they are also angry that constituency projects are not being implemented by the Executive, and want to know why about 50-60 per cent of them (members) have not been assigned their official cars.

Other members also expressed anger over the alleged lateness in payment of their salaries and allowances.

Dogara has been left shocked by the development and has launched a counter move to calm frayed nerves.

It was gathered that the whole drama started on Wednesday when some members of the House took him up on the various issues at an Executive Session.

It was learnt that a ranking member from Kano State led the protest by faulting the House leadership’s alleged romance with the presidency instead of asserting the independence of the chamber.

The members alleged that their support for the presidency, especially ailing President Muhammadu Buhari, was not being reciprocated by the latter.

They also complained about how ministers had been treating summons by committees with disdain.

They were particularly irked by the alleged unwillingness of the Executive to implement constituency projects in the 2016 budget.

Members claimed they went through hell to get the constituency projects executed.

A top source said: “Since he was elected, the Speaker has never had the type of revolt he witnessed during the week from members.

“The matter got to a point that some members at the plenary on Wednesday refused to stand up in deference to the Speaker in order to usher him into the chamber.

“Even on Thursday, some members extended their annoyance to voting during the debate on amendments to the 1999 constitution.”

Another ranking member gave said: “Some members from the North-West actually led the revolt at the Executive session.

They accused Dogara of ‘leaning so much to the Executive’ such that the House was being turned into a rubber stamp.

“They gave a long list of constitutional violations by the Executive which the House ignored because of Dogara’s rapprochement with President Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

“They queried why the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola will come out publicly to deride the House without any sanction.

They cited cases of ministers and chief executives of MDAs not honouring House summons.

“Also, the MDAs, especially ministers, elect to implement constituency projects based on their whims and caprices. But they have always forgotten that the budget is a law.

Some of us are tired and frustrated.

“The Speaker has been persuading us to be patient but we are not delivering dividends of democracy to our constituents. What we now get is stoning of some members by their constituents.

Another member from the South-South said: “Well, some of us actually complained bitterly about welfare matters. We are two years into our tenure and about 50-60 per cent of our members have not been given official cars.

“The complaint we have been getting borders on the fact that the Peugeot model cars have been ordered from abroad but yet to arrive.

It is insulting that we have to be lobbying to get official cars which will be paid for from our entitlements.

“We believe that something was fundamentally wrong with the award of the contract for the cars by the House Services Committee.

“There was no communication on what has really happened. Unfortunately, the leadership has been tolerating the House Services Committee.”

A member from the North-West said: “It has not been funny because we get our salaries and allowances late.

“We protested to let the Speaker know that we are suffering in silence. If the Speaker had not handled it with maturity, we would have changed all the principal officers.

“Of what use is backing President Buhari without meaningful projects in our constituency?

“Many of us preferred the Senate antagonistic method because it is working for that chamber. This was why we took on Dogara since the beginning of the week.”

But a principal officer said: “When Dogara opened up at the session, it was realized by members that he has not been pocketed by the presidency.

His leadership style is that of consultation and not confrontation. He thinks service delivery to Nigerians should be the priority of lawmakers and not feud with the Executive.

“The same Speaker said he had engaged the Acting President on Fashola matter and Prof. Osinbajo directed the Minister to go and apologize. He obeyed the directive on Friday.

“In the last few months, the Speaker has been to the Villa to iron out issues amicably between the two arms of government.”

On the welfare of members, the principal officer said: “I think it has to do more with the failure of the House Services Committee than the problem with the Speaker. He was shocked to hear some of the complaints.”

Findings confirmed that following assurances from the Speaker, members jettisoned plans to “team up with the Senate” against the Executive.

“Dogara has sued for calm; we are giving him benefit of the doubt. He is a good listener but we need action.”

A member from the North-East said: “We have heard from Dogara and his team.We are awaiting action on their pledges to address our complaints. We love the Speaker, we have temporarily sheathed the swords.

“We have all collectively resolved not to join the Senate to fight the Executive because some of the issues are really too personal.

Some have to do with sheer politics and ambition. We won’t be part of it.

“But the House leadership has suffered a jolt, the situation might never be the same henceforth. We love Dogara but we cannot sacrifice the interest of our constituents.”

I am not stepping down and am not dying – Mugabe

I am not stepping down and am not dying – Mugabe
President Robert Mugabe

President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe on Saturday said he was not stepping down nor dying and that there was no one with his political stature who could immediately take over from him.

The 93-year-old leader has been in charge in the former British colony since independence in 1980.

His health is closely watched by Zimbabweans, who fear the country could face chaos if he dies without anointing a successor.

Mugabe told tens of thousands of supporters at a rally in the town of Chinhoyi, in his home province, that doctors were recently surprised by his “strong bone system.”

He has traveled to Singapore three times this year for what officials say is routine medical treatment. “There is the issue that the president is going.

I am not going,” Mugabe told supporters on the grounds of a local university, 100 km west of the capital Harare.

“The president is dying. I am not dying. I will have an ailment here and there but bodywise, all my internal organs … very firm, very strong,

” Mugabe said as he leant on the lectern. Mugabe had walked onto the stage slowly but without assistance.

The issue of who will succeed Mugabe has deeply divided the ruling party, with two factions supporting Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Mugabe’s wife Grace.

On Thursday, Grace challenged Mugabe to name his preferred successor, to end divisions over the future leadership of ZANU-PF. She repeated the call on Saturday, adding that Mugabe would lead the process to choose his eventual successor.

Mugabe said although some party officials wanted to succeed him, he saw no one among his subordinates with his political clout to keep the party united and fend off a challenge from the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change.

“A new man will not have the same stature and the same acceptance as I have managed to secure for the party over the years,” said Mugabe.

John Fashanu

Details of how Nigerian-born Ex-England Footballer, John Fashanu was locked up in Abuja prison for two days over a land related issue.

Former England football star, John Fashanu was last week locked up in an Abuja prison over involvement in a land related scam.

The former Wimbledon player and television personality was arrested and held for two days because he was involved in a scam to sell land that wasn’t for sale, The Sun UK reported.

Fashanu was released on July 19 on bail.

According to the Mirror, police turned up at his home in the capital Abuja and was arrested on suspicion of “criminal conspiracy.”

It is believed that the 54-year-old pocketed £23,000 in the dodgy scam after acting for a friend who was looking to buy land.

Fashanu has reportedly agreed to pay back the money but has denied any wrongdoing.

A friend of the former footballer told the Mirror: “This is a business deal between friends that has gone south and the police were asked to basically mediate.

“It will all be sorted very quickly. It was a just a business deal.”

Fashanu was forced to surrender his British passport and pay the money back in instalments ahead of his release.

General Hyacinth Dagala, a Nigerian police Deputy Inspector, said: “John Fashanu was arrested on July 17 in connection with an allegation of criminal conspiracy and obtaining the sum of N9,550,000 [Nigerian Naira] under false pretense.

“He was granted administrative bail on July 18 but because of his inability to produce the requisite surety on that day, he remained in detention until July 19 when he was released.”

Fashanu, who has featured on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!, had spells at Norwich, Lincoln, Millwall, Wimbledon and Aston Villa.

He went onto co-host British television show Gladiators in the 1990s.

Breaking: Oduduwa Republic: South West Group Declares Secession From Nigeria

Breaking: Oduduwa Republic: South West Group Declares Secession From Nigeria

A South West Group said to be representing Yorubas has given reasons why it decided to secede from Nigeria and form the Oduduwa republic.

A South West group, Yoruba Liberation Command (YOLICOM) has declared secession from Nigeria and sought the creation of Oduduwa Republic, according to a report by Guardian.

The declaration was made yesterday in Lagos, the group said it had no apology for the decision, as its people wished to see an end to the over 100 years of bitter acrimony, ethnic rivalry, savage killings, blackmail of the Yoruba nation, and excruciating burden of coming from a country with the stigma of terrorism.

The group’s spokesman, Opeoluwa Akinola, who disclosed this at a press conference held at Ogba, said it was time for the Yoruba nation to exit the ‘axis of evil’ called Nigeria, having endured its misery, destruction of values and the cultural genocide inflicted on its heritage.

“We totally reject the idea of restructuring as proposed. It is an attempt to restructure Nigeria on their own terms and not on the terms of the people.

Nigeria will never be genuinely restructured by the present crop of political leaders who are themselves beneficiaries of the same skewed system.

“Even if the country will be restructured, it will pass through the National Assembly, which was created during the era of military rule of the Fulani to ensure an upper hand for the Fulani North.

The National Assembly is an organ of the Fulani and their agents, so also is the Nigerian military, which has continuously been used to repress, intimidate and humiliate Nigerians,” he said.

Akinola lamented that Nigeria has become a burden on the Yoruba people and its people have been exposed to unimaginable threats of violence, wiping off entire families through clubbing to death, kidnapping, savage killings, rape of infants, stealing of public wealth and public display of stolen wealth with arrogance by the criminals.

“We hereby display the proposed flag of the Yoruba nation as a symbol of mobilisation of our long suffering people, out of the huge slum and prison called Nigeria, a country built and sustained by corruption, blood-shedding, malicious damage and total contempt for humanity.

“We call on the United Nations (UN) to immediately put the machinery in motion for the immediate dissolution of Nigeria and set the captives free.

If Nigeria fails to heed this advice to dissolve the unholy and cruel union, the perpetrators and beneficiaries of the blood- sucking nation will have themselves to blame,” he warned.

On restructuring we stand but…. – Northern Governors

On restructuring we stand but…. – Northern Governors
From left: Governors, Tanko Al-Makura of Nassarawa State; Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State; Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State; and Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, at the meeting between the Northern Governors and Traditional Rulers in Kaduna State

The governors of 19 northern states said, yesterday, that the region was not opposed to the restructuring of the country, contrary to widely held views by some persons and groups.

In an address at a meeting of the 19 northern states governors and traditional rulers in Kaduna, Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum and Governor of Borno State, Ibrahim Shettima, said any restructuring should be done  within acceptable criteria and must be fair to all component parts of the country.

He said a final decision on the position of the north would be taken today when governors of the 19 northern states meet in Kaduna.

He said: “It is also my expectation that at the end of this meeting today (yesterday) and, God willing, tomorrow’s (today) meeting of the governors, the forum and our esteemed royal fathers will adopt a consensus position on restructuring of the country that will be reflective of the general overall interest of the people of Northern Nigeria and which will attract popular acceptance.

“It is of vital importance to arrive at such consensus position because it is crucial to dispel the erroneous impression created and disseminated by certain interests in this country that the North is opposed to restructuring.

“Secondly, it is important to do so not only to accommodate the mainstream of Northern public opinion, our primary constituency, but to also counter the specific versions of restructuring, which generally seek to place the North in a position of strategic political and economic disadvantage, but portrayed as the only versions that can work for the nation.

“Without pre-empting the outcome of our interactions over the next two days, however, permit me Your Excellencies and Your Royal Highnesses, to embark on a short reflection on the matter before hand.

Agreed that being citizens of a democratic country, Nigerians are entitled to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech and association, and the clamour for the restructuring of the country falls within the purview of these freedoms.

However, the exercise of such rights outside the confines of responsibility is not acceptable.

Condemn hate speech

“ The resort to shenanigans, hate speech, and sometimes, incitement to violence by organisations such as IPOP and MOSSAB must be unconditionally condemned as they are inimical to national unity, stability, peaceful coexistence and national security.

“In this regards, I call on all constituted authorities and responsible leaders of thought in the South-East and other parts  of Nigeria to rise to the occasion and call these  purveyors of hate speech and inflammatory and provocative statements to order.

“These elements must be encouraged to pursue their agitations within processes enshrined in our constitution and with the full and willing participation of all parts of our nation.”

Call for reinvention and redirection of nation’s politics The governors called for a reinvention and redirection of the nation’s politics in order “redirect the energy of our youths so that we exploit the great potential, which God in His mercy has bestowed on us.

The system can be provided with the much needed policy-framework, funding, energy and direction to set up urban and rural agro-based industries to raise our productive  capacity,  keep our youths busy; after some of the  countries we admire  and frequently visit did just that to be the shining light that they  are today.

“We need to task our intellectuals, our political class, our clergy and our traditional  leaders  to create the necessary synergy to work assiduously to meet targets that will put us back on the path of progress.

We can’t afford to fail, we have all we need to succeed. All we require now is the political will; the will to change our ways, the will to re-invent our politics, the will to re-engineer our society and focus on the next generation rather than the next elections.”

On farmers, herdsmen clashes Speaking in the incessant clash between farmers and herdsmen, the governors said proactive steps must be taken to check the issue.

They said: “Another no less important issue on the front burner of national discourse, which by far impacts more on the socio-economic lives of the people of the North than the rest of the  country, is the continuing, and in some cases, worsening, conflict between farmers and herdsmen.

“Although the struggle over grazing land is a recurring phenomenon in many African countries south of the Sahara, the case in Nigeria has come to assume a dangerous and worrisome dimension in terms of both its massive scale and widespread scope, and the ethno-religious colouration it has been so cynically given.

“I dare to say that unless we are ready to cast aside all sentiment-laden approaches to tackling this monstrous problem, it is capable of consuming the very social fabric of the North and even condemning the entire country to unwarranted destruction.

“It, therefore, behoves on us, our political leaders, royal fathers and elders, to here and now embark on the serious search for a viable, sustainable and lasting solution to this admittedly difficult to resolve but not insurmountable quagmire.”

Insecurity in the north In his speech, Governor  Nasir el Rufai of of Kaduna State called for more attention to be paid to the issue of insecurity in the north.

He also expressed concern on the continued insecurity in north, noting that the meeting was coming at time when there is dire need to restore peace in the north.

El-Rufai noted that in place of strife and division, there was the dire need of the regional leaders to create economic opportunities for the north to move forward.

Some of the traditional rulers that were at the meeting included the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad AbubakarIII; Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi; Emir of Gwandu, Maj.Gen Muhammad Iliyasu Bashir; Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II; Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu; Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmumini Usman, Emir of Zazzau, Etsu-Nupe, Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, the Top Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, among others.

See the Five Young Armed Robbers Sentenced to 75 Years in Jail
The five armed robbers sentenced to 75 years in jail

Five armed robbers who robbed residents of their hard-earned money and phones have found himself in serious trouble after being sentenced to 75 years in jail.

The Aflao Circuit Court has sentenced five persons, who robbed two mobile money operators at Dzelukope-Alata in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region of Ghana, to a total of 75 years’ imprisonment in hard labour, DailyGuide has reported.

This happened after the five accused persons pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

The court, presided over by His Honour, Ali Baba Abature, also fined the five convicts 500 penalty points each, amounting to about GH¢6,000 or in default serve additional five years’ imprisonment in hard labour.

The sentences are to run concurrently. The five convicts were arrested on July 5, 2017 and remanded into police custody by the Aflao Circuit Court on July 7, 2017.

They are 32-year-old fisherman, Agbey Ali, 22-year-old student, Dorkenu Wisdom, 18-year-old tailor’s apprentice, Seth Gidiglo, 17-year-old unemployed, Eli Dorkenu and 22-year-old student, Bismark Ashiagbor.

A sixth suspect, whose name was given as John, is still at large.

The police were alerted by one Mercy Sekle, a 36-year-old business woman, who reported the case to the Police, said the robbery incident happened on July 4, 2017 at about 9pm when the two mobile money operators had closed from work.

The two victims, Kumordzi David Setsofia, 24, and Benjamin Kumordzi, 28, were robbed of a green bag containing an XTG mobile phone valued at GH¢120.00, MTN Mobile Money Merchant Transaction Book, Invoice Book and cash of GH¢17,000.

Narrating how the incident happened, Mercy said on the fateful day, the victims, after close of their usual mobile money operations, were heading towards their house at Alata when the incident occurred.

Benjamin Kumordzi was holding a bag containing an amount of GH¢17,000 and his transaction books while Kumordzi David Setsofia was holding a green bag containing cash of GH¢1,800, XTG phone valued at GH¢120 with unspecified amount of electronic money on it, MTN Mobil Money Transaction book and an invoice book.

On their way, the convicts emerged from a corner of a building along the road and asked them to hand over their bags to them, but the victims refused.

They pulled out offensive weapons such as knives and scissors to attack the victims.

The victims shouted out for help but the armed robbers collected their bags containing various sums of money and other items and inflicted several wounds on them.

The noise attracted some community members who arrested two of the convicts Agbey Ali and Dorkenoo Wisdom and handed them over to the Police.

Upon interrogation, the two admitted the offence and mentioned Seth Gidiglo and Bismark Ashiagbor as their accomplices.

They also revealed that two other guys, whose names they did not know, were involved.

On July 5, 2017, the police, acting upon a tip-off, arrested Eli Dorkenoo and Seth Gidiglo at Havedzi Beach. They also admitted the offence in their caution statements.

On that same day, some residents found a green bag containing MTN invoice and MTN merchant transaction book and gave them to the Police.

Apart from the bag which belonged to David Kumordzi, they also found a Samsung Grand mobile phone belonging to Wisdom Dorkenoo.

Five Things You May Not Know About the Man Who Dethroned Bill Gates to Become Richest Man in the World

Five Things You May Not Know About the Man Who Dethroned Bill Gates to Become Richest Man in the World
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos  briefly became the world's richest man on Thursday.

Jeff Bezos who was named as the richest man in the world after overtaking Bill Gates is the founder of Amazon.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos briefly overtook Bill Gates on Thursday to become the world's richest person, as his worth hit $91.4bn (£70bn).

A sharp rise in Amazon shares meant Mr Bezos's wealth eclipsed that of the Microsoft co-founder for a time according to Forbes.

But as Amazon shares fell back, Mr Gates regained the top spot. Mr Bezos, 53, owns about 17% of the shares in Amazon, but also has interests in several other businesses.

Recently soaring technology stocks have fuelled huge growth in the worth of entrepreneurs such as Mr Bezos and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, 33, who is number five on Forbes's list.

But the last person to steal the lead was Spanish fashion boss Amancio Ortega, founder of Zara's owner Inditex.

He was the world's richest man for two days last September. Amazon's current share price puts Mr Bezos only marginally behind Mr Gates.

Here are five things you may not know about Mr Bezos:

1. His spending is rocketing

Earlier this year Mr Bezos paid $23m for an old textile museum in Washington DC.

Once it's converted to a family home, the Bezos family will be near neighbours in the exclusive neighbourhood with the Obamas, as well as Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner.

At least that's what the Washington Post reported, a reliable source presumably since Mr Bezos bought the paper in 2013 with $250m of his own money.

The Bezos family also has homes in Seattle and Beverly Hills, but expenditure on property pales into insignificance compared to Mr Bezos's foremost passion: rocket science.

Mr Bezos says he is selling about $1bn of Amazon stock every year to fund Blue Origin, the project he has founded to develop commercial space travel.

2. He is generous with bananas

It was Mr Bezos's idea to start giving away bananas to passers-by in Amazon's home town of Seattle - a generous gesture, especially since about 4,500 people reportedly take up the offer every day.

But when it comes to philanthropy that is still peanuts compared to his peers.

While he and his family have given millions to good causes, Mr Bezos has been criticised for not doing enough.

He doesn't splash out for non-profits on the scale that Bill Gates, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and others do, and is yet to join the 169 of his wealthy peers who have pledged to give away half their personal fortune.

But last month Mr Bezos appeared to be toying with new ideas in the philanthropic sphere.

He tweeted a request for suggestions as to how he could give money away that would have an impact "here and now" - a kind of next-day-delivery philanthropy.

It remains to be seen which proposals - ranging from libraries to tech talent in Africa - have caught his imagination.

3. His brother is the real hero

Good causes are already very much the domain of Jeff's brother Mark Bezos. He switched from a career in advertising to work for the New York based anti-poverty organisation Robin Hood.

In a 2011 TED talk Mark Bezos relates how, attending his first fire as a volunteer, he was keen to show what he was made of.

But someone else was asked to brave the smouldering building to rescue the owner's puppy.

Mark was given the less glamorous task of finding her a pair of shoes. But she was still extremely grateful.

He draws this lesson: if you have something to give, however small, do it now.

Any ideas for Jeff?

4. Jeff's a true Trekkie

One advantage of being super-rich is that people indulge your fantasies. As a life-long Star Trek fan, Mr Bezos was able to secure a minor role in the latest movie.

But you may find it hard to spot him on film, since the Vine he posted shows him pretty effectively disguised in a wrinkly grey mask.

He has never really disguised his inner geek however.

As a child he spent a lot of time with his grandparents on their Texas ranch (learning to vaccinate cattle amongst other vital skills) and his interest in number-crunching was already apparent.

"At that age I'd take any excuse to make estimates and do minor arithmetic.

I'd calculate our gas mileage, I'd figure out useless statistics on things like grocery spending," he told Princeton's class of 2010.

For example he whiled away some time calculating that smoking would be likely to take nine years off his grandmother's life.

"I expected to be awarded for my cleverness and my arithmetic skills," he said. But his grandmother burst into tears.

Grandfather talked him through how sometimes "it's harder to be kind than clever".

5. He can do blue sky thinking

As well as the fun stuff he has a serious futuristic vision. Early on he was already imagining space hotels, amusement parks, and cities orbiting the Earth.

And Mr Bezos's dreams are getting bigger.
"I want millions of people living and working in space.

I want us to be a space-faring civilisation," he told Geekwire last year.

He predicts that in the next few hundred years we will put all our heavy industry off this planet, mine resources and generate energy in space, leaving earth a much more pleasant place to live on.

Mr Bezos does plan to go into space himself too, of course - once Blue Origin is ready to take him. But as Blue Origin's slogan says: Gradatim Ferociter, (apparently Latin for "Step by Step, Ferociously") maybe he's not rushing things.

1999 Named Time's Person of the Year
2000 Launches Blue Origin spaceflight firm
2013 Buys the Washington Post

A call was placed to the parents of the girl since she was the only one at home and the mother had to rush back home early from work almost immediately after she got the call only to meet Obiamaka gasping for breath with blood gushing out of her body.

"On getting to the house, I opened the gate with my spare key and dashed into the room only to find my daughter gasping for breath in the pool of her blood.

When asked about the (boys), Mrs Orakwue who burst into tears said that her daughter complained about some boys who had made advances towards her when she came back on holidays from school just recently but she rebuffed them and they swore to teach her a lesson.

The father of the deceased Mr Obinna Orakwue who could not hide his emotions lamented that enough was not being done to find out those behind the demise of his daughter.

"Now see what has happened. I leave it in the hands of God to judge", he said.

Britain Set to Ban Sale of Petrol and Diesel-Powered Cars, Announces Date

In order to protect the environment, Britain's Environment Minister, Michael Gove has said the government will ban the sale of Petrol and Diesel-Powered Cars by 2040.

Britain has revealed it will ban sale of petrol and diesel-powered cars by 2040

Britain will ban the sale of new petrol and diesel-powered cars from 2040 as part of a plan to get them off the roads altogether 10 years later, environment minister Michael Gove said on Wednesday.

"The Conservatives had a manifesto promise to ensure that by 2050 there would be no diesel or petrol vehicles on our roads.

Today we are confirming that that means there should be no new diesel or petrol vehicles by 2040," Gove said in a BBC interview.

Gove also said the government would make 200 million pounds available to local authorities shortly for schemes to restrict diesel vehicles' access to polluted roads.

Gove said he favoured road-by-road restrictions for diesel vehicles rather than outright bans from town centres or costly vehicle scrappage schemes, but did not rule them out entirely if they were local authorities' preferred options.

Pastor David in trying to refute the rumour said that he did not beat his wife.

According to him, he had a misunderstanding with his wife and when she came back, he tried to say some romantic words to her before opening the door for her but surprisingly, he saw his wife in a 'weird' mind state.

It was during the process that the wife mistakenly slipped off and hit her head on the floor. He however urged wives not to lay their hands first on their husbands no matter what the situation is.

Many social media users however disputed his claims. Many of them were of the opinion that he was trying to cover up.

They argued that a real man of God won't come online to defend himself after mercilessly beating his wife. Several African clerics have been more embroiled in controversies more than their congregants in recent times.
