The commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State was yesterday thrown into excitement following the arrest of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Chinemerem Elebeke, famously known as Meskana.

A suspected serial armed robber, Chinemerem Elebeke a.k.a Meskana, who has been reportedly terrorising Onitsha and its environs in recent times, has been finally arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Police in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to a report by New Telegraph, about 20 victims of Meskana, most of who were dispossessed of their belongings and cash at gunpoint, on Wednesday, stormed the Fegge Police Station, in Onitsha, to commend the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Gurba Rabiu on the arrest.

The victims, described the robber as “one in a million”, adding that whenever Meskana’s name is mentioned, it sends jitters down people’s spine.

While speaking to correspondents, the DPO confirmed the arrest to journalists in Onitsha.

He said: “The suspect has robbed about 30 innocent victims at different locations that include Ogbaru, Fegge, Odoakpu, Inland town and environs and got away with it.

“He has been a great terror to residents of those areas and for long we have been trailing him and I know that if we don’t get him my area will remain unsafe.

As God will have it, on a tip-off that he was somewhere at Odoakpu, we mobilised and on getting there, arrested him.

“Since his arrest, victims of his armed robbery escapades have continued to flood the station only to have a glimpse of him and he confessed robbing more than 30 people.

“His parents came in here begging for his release with N1 million but you know money is not everything. This is somebody who has caused much trauma to the society, including a pastor.

“Places he confessed to have robbed include petrol filling stations, shops, markets and some residential homes. Now people in this area can heave a sigh of relief.”

Rabiu added that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded
