The Anambra state government says it will continue to sustain its partnership with all the mission hospitals across the state.
The State Commissioner for Health , Dr Josephat Akabuike, disclosed this to newsmen at an open heart surgery conducted at Dr Joe Nwilo Heart Center at the Saint Joseph’s Hospital Adazi Nnukwu, Anaocha Local Government Area.
The open heart surgery was conducted on a six year old master Solomon Chinweuba, by a team of Indian and Nigerian cardiovascular surgeons free of charge courtesy of the Anambra state government.
Dr Akabuike who commended the founder of the centre, called on Ndi Anambra and the entire south east region to avail themselves of the opportunity and patronize the centre for their various heart related diseases which according to him is highly affordable in the centre, instead of borrowing money to travel abroad for such treatment.
The mother of the patient, Mrs. Delphine Joseph, told newsmen that they were referred to the centre from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and showered encomiums on the Anambra state government for paying the surgery bill and prayed God to protect the governor.
Earlier in his own speech , the founder of the centre, Dr Joe Nwilo who said he initiated the centre to bridge the gap in the treatment of heart disease in this part of the world, revealed that the centre since inception, has performed over thirty successful heart surgeries and eulogized the state government for their assistance in helping patents undergo the surgery free of charge.
The leader of the team that conducted the surgery, Dr Narendra from Vikram hospital India , expressed satisfaction with the state of the arts equipment in the centre which he said made the surgery successful but pointed out that there is still room for improvement.
