BREAKING: 'Buhari Resign Now' - Reps Member,Tell Buhari - Abdulmumin Jibrin Writes Open Letter to Buhari

BREAKING: 'Buhari Resign Now' - Reps Member,Tell Buhari - Abdulmumin Jibrin Writes Open Letter to Buhari

In an open letter released on Friday, the suspended member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Abdulmumini Jibrin, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign from office on health grounds.

PMB, TIME TO LET GO:

So many issues are left unattended even small issues that a presidential cough can deal with are left hanging. Supporters are worried, understandably resorting to grumbling in hush voices while keeping bold faces and holding on to hope and prayers.

The govt has so many soft target for internal and external opposition to feast.

We must tell ourselves the truth rather than live in denial. At PMB's age, working actively for over 50 years , even without his present health condition, his capacity will be greatly challenged.

Mr president himself admitted that he has never been this sick in his entire life which makes the entire scenario really worrisome.

Then we are reminded everyday that PMB will travel abroad again to attend to his health as if it is just normal and we should celebrate?

I believe that the combination of these two factors of his age and health situation has slowed down the pace of PMB and the APC govt.

This has become clearly noticeable because it is a time that the country is expected to be on auto cruise in dealing with its challenges bearing in mind that the present APC government is fast running out of time yet things continue to go even slower, slower and slower!

The more PMB appears on camera, the more the narrative of his health situation takes the center stage and the uncertainly it creates.

It is a narrative that has over powered what ever official function Mr President is discharging since his return from medical vacation

PMB gave his all to Nigeria. He is a great man, an enigma like Mandela. If we truly love him, We must not allow him to be rubbished.

Life and health belongs to God but the more I see pictures of Mr President, the more Iam convinced he needs to go and rest. He needs it!

The president I see on camera needs  full home care not office, moderately quiet life, enough rest and quality time with his family. Sometimes there is no harm in been driven in a car you labour to buy and who knows? You might even enjoy the ride better on owners' seat.

PMB should opt for or encourage to accept a negotiated exit. The country can not afford a sort of part time president at this time. This is not as easy but it is doable.

I do not think PMB is obsessed with power, I only think the practical way to go about things is to key in the interest of those who are or can be an obstacle around the president for fear of losing their positions or relevance.

The interest of PMB himself, his family and friends, some officials and regional sentiments are interest that should be addressed.

If we truly love PMB, we must apply some urgent diplomacy, resolve these issues quickly, move on and save the country valuable time

Mr President can be giving a special concession to nominate a new VP. We should expect that he nominates a very competent northerner.

A nominee that can get things done and have the capacity to unite the north and assuage it feelings for losing the presidency again

We the northerners should accept it as destiny, may be Almighty God is so disappointed with the present generation of northern leaders.

And may be God wants to reserve the northern presidential slot for the younger and vibrant northern generation that will come after us

I also believe Mrs Buhari is competent enough and can be considered for a cabinet position. She has paid her dues in APC, anyway.

The incoming President will have to do some diplomatic shuttle to few powerful officials to address what ever their fears may be

A committee of all former heads of states, APC leaders and DSS can work together to push through this agenda in our collective interest.

I apologise to any body who might misunderstand my tweets or feel offended. I have to love PMB even more and have nothing against him.

But this is my candid opinion and advice. It may not be the case or perfect but it has conviction of my conscience and I will sleep well.

I have listened to many arguments, non is worth the life of PMB. He has done his best. I believe it is time he let go.

God bless you allBREAKING: 'Buhari Resign Now' - Reps Member, Abdulmumin Jibrin Writes Open Letter to Buhari

Fraudsters impersonate Tinubu, Saraki, dupe job seekers of N20m

Fraudsters impersonate Tinubu, Saraki, dupe job seekers of N20m

Some suspected fraudsters, who specialised in cloning phone numbers of ministers, politicians and aides to President Muhammadu Buhari, have been apprehended by the police.

The suspects were identified as Chief Ovie Ogogo, 47; Abdulazeez Eragbe, 40; Babatunde Oshamoto, 49; and 25-year-old Samuel Idah.

Fourteen phones with SIM cards allegedly registered with names of top government officials were reportedly recovered from the suspects.

Among those impersonated by the syndicate, according to the police, are Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari; the National Security Adviser, Babagana Moguno; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibeh Kachukwu; and the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun.

They were also accused of impersonating a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi; and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

PUNCH Metro learnt that operatives of the Inspector-General of Police, led by ACP Abba Kyari, trailed the syndicate to a hotel in Kaduna State on Tuesday, after receiving complaints from some victims.

A police source disclosed to one of our correspondents that the suspects impersonated Moguno to collect N13m from a Ghanaian, who wanted to get an oil block in Nigeria, and posed as Lawal to swindle one Nnamdi Udo of N4m under false pretences of helping him to get a federal appointment.

“They also posed as the Chief of Staff to the President and collected N2.5m from one Mr. Bishop, who was looking for a contract, and another N700,000 from one Shehu Dan Yahaya, who was seeking a federal appointment.

“Ogogo, a native of Omoku Rivers State, impersonated prominent citizens from the South-South and South-East; Eragbe impersonated prominent persons from the North; Oshamoto posed as prominent citizens from the South-West and North-Central; while Idah supplied them SIM cards registered with the names of the top government officials.

“They were arrested in a luxury hotel in Kaduna and had confessed to impersonating several prominent citizens,” the source added.

Another senior police officer disclosed to PUNCH Metro that the suspects confessed to have realised N20m in six months from their criminal activities.

He added that the mastermind of the gang was based in the United Kingdom.

He said, “Ogogo is their leader; but they mentioned one Prince Maurice, based in the UK, as their gang leader.  Fourteen different phones, several registered SIM cards, and a diary containing phone numbers of several top government officials, were recovered from the suspects.

“Ogogo further confessed that they had made over N20m from their criminal activities within the last six months.”

Parading the suspects on Thursday in Abuja, the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said all the suspects confessed to the crime.

He said, “On March 23, 2017, the Intelligence Response Team arrested these notorious criminals who posed as top government functionaries.

“The four-man syndicate, led by one ‘High Chief’ Ovie Ogogo, was arrested in a hotel in Kaduna State. All the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to have impersonated several prominent citizens and made over N20m within the last six months.”

The police said other suspects would soon be arrested, while those in custody would be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation.

Vice-principal arrested for impregnating student, affairs with 6 others

Genius! African Man Who Cannot Write Builds a Solar-Powered Helicopter

Genius! African Man Who Cannot Write Builds a Solar-Powered Helicopter

A genius African man who cannot write has left many people perplexed after he built a solar-powered helicopter.

A Kenyan man has left his countrymen and outsiders baffled after he build a solar-powered helicopter.

The man identified as Fredrick Onyango, 25, according to The Nairobian, has never set foot inside a classroom. He cannot even write properly.

He is now putting the final touches on the solar-powered helicopter along Ngara’s Quarry Road. That genius is now the talk of town.

His genius work has been hailed by his community members and has attracted so much attention. He is yet to test-fly it.

“I was born in Kisumu. I came to the city more than 10 years ago. I started life as street boy before honing my innovative skills,” the father of three told The Nairobian.
Genius! African Man Who Cannot Write Builds a Solar-Powered Helicopter

Revealing how he started, Onyango said he first began by dismantling old computers and studying how they were made, then started fixing them.

His interest has seen him deal in computer hardware and other electronics.

“I would buy old and spoilt hard disks, study them then fix them. I would buy them for Sh50 or Sh100, fix them then sell them for Sh1,000 or more,” he said.

His popularity rose when he started building the helicopter, with people questioning his ability. The medium-sized helicopter can accommodate one person.

One of its components is a modified water pump engine. It is solar-powered and the roof consists of solar panels, which also supply power to the main engine.

“The roof is made of 18 solar panels, each generating 12 volts. I modified the water pump engine with different gears to strengthen and enable it run like a helicopter engine.

At the moment, it can reach a speed of up to 240km per hour,” he said.

He adds that, “I installed 10 CCTV cameras controlled by special laptop on the dashboard; others are meant to check the main propeller and the back one in case they develop problems.

I’ve tested the helicopter on the ground and it is very powerful. No one even dares come close during tests,” he explained.

Just like the airplane, the dashboard has speedometers, radio, and medium-sized laptop on the roof, small network mast and buttons to control its movements.

“I modified the radio so that there is no interference with other frequencies, especially official government ones.

I can receive and broadcast to other countries, meaning my network mast is powerful enough” he explained.

Onyango who deals in computer products and other electronics when not busy working on the helicopter, reveals that the venture has cost him more than Sh100,000.

He says his intention is to not only see the helicopter fly, but also prove his innovative skills and impart knowledge on willing youth.

“It might take sometimes to complete since I am working on it slowly. I have to buy some gadgets and parts one at time but I’m willing to train other people for free because no one taught me anything about electronics,” he said.

2019 Elections: Senate okays card reader, electronic voting

2019 Elections: Senate okays card reader, electronic voting

The Senate also legalised the Card Reader introduced by INEC for voters’ accreditation in the 2015 general election, and gave INEC powers to modify the voting process if there was any challenge.

The Senate also made provisions to guide voting in the event of the death of a candidate in the course of an election as happened in the Kogi State governorship election in November, 2015.

Under the passed bill, a limit has been placed at what political parties can charge their members for nomination forms for different political offices.

The sale of forms for the presidency has been capped at N10 million under the bill. The card reader innovation used by INEC in the 2015 general election, was legalised by the Act under section 49 which deals with accreditation of voters, transmission of accreditation data etc.

Specifically the Act under section 49 subsection 2 states: “The Presiding officer shall use a smart card reader or any other technological device that may be prescribed by the commission from time to time for the accreditation of voters, to verify, confirm or authenticate the genuineness or otherwise of the voter’s card.”

The Senate also approved a provision to enable INEC transmit the result of elections electronically in an encrypted and secured manner to prevent hacking.

The decisions of the Senate followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission on a Bill for an Act to amend the Electoral Act No. 6, 2010 and for other related matters (SB 231 and SB 234).

According to the passed Bill, if such a scenario occurs, INEC should suspend the elections for 21 days during which the affected political party will conduct fresh primaries to choose a new candidate  within 14 days of the death of its candidate and submit a new candidate to the Commission to replace the dead candidate.

The Act under sections 36 (3a, b and c) makes provisions for tackling such an emergency.

The section states: “If after the commencement of poll and before the announcement of the final result and declaration of a winner, a nominated candidate dies, (a) the Commission shall, being satisfied of the fact of the death, suspend the election for a period not exceeding 21 days; (b) the political party whose candidate died may, if it intends to continue to participate in the election, conduct a fresh direct primary within 14 days of the death of its candidate and submit a new candidate to the Commission to replace the dead candidate; and (c) Subject to paragraphs (a) and (b) of this subsection, the Commission shall continue with the election, announce the final result and declare a winner.”

In the bill, the electronic voting provisions of the Act is contained in section 52 sub section 2 which states: “The electoral commission shall adopt electronic voting in all elections or any other method of voting as may be determined by the commission from time to time.”

The section however gives INEC discretion to use other methods of voting if it is impracticable to use e-voting in any election.

The passed legislation also prescribes a punishment of a 5 year jail term or N5, 000,000.00 fine or both for officials of INEC who are found to be members of a political party. Section 87 that deals with nominations of candidates by parties for election from councillorship to presidency with pegging of the amounts that should be collected from them by their various political parties.

The Act states that monies collected from aspirants by political parties for councillorship election should not exceed N150, 000.00, Local Government Chairman, N250, 000.00, State House of Assembly member N500, 000.00, House of Representative member N1,000,000. 00, Senatorial aspirant N2, 000,000.00, Governor of a State N5, 000, 000. 00 and N10, 000,000.00 from a presidential aspirant.

The Act also limits the powers of the courts to stop the conduct of political party primaries for elections.

“Notwithstanding the provisions of this Act or rules of a political party, an aspirant, who complains that any of the provisions of this Act or rules of a political party has not been complied with in the nomination of a candidate of a political party for election, may apply to the Federal High Court or the High Court of a State or the FCT for redress.

“However, nothing in this session shall empower the courts to stop the holding of ad-hoc delegates elections, primaries or general election or the processes thereof under this Act pending the determination of the suit.

” In his remarks after the adoption of the report by the lawmakers, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki who presided, thanked his colleagues for a job well done and expressed optimism that the Bill would further improve the nation’s electoral system and also contribute to good governance.

Saraki said: “Distinguished colleagues, let me thank all of you for this job well done.

I want to particularly thank the members of the Committee on INEC and particularly the former chairman of the Committee, Abubakar Kyari; Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and all the members of the committee, who worked very hard to ensure the passage of this very important bill, which addresses our electoral process and goes on to strengthen our democracy.

“We have touched on new areas which I believe will improve the credibility of our elections and by so doing, definitely improve our democracy and good governance.

“Most important, I think, are some of the new sections we have added, in the areas of technology, the smart card reader, and collation, which has been an area of great concern.

“Collation of results after the polling units and some of the additions we put on the electronic way by which the compilation of results can be done, I think, will go a long way to reduce some of the irregularities we have seen before.

“This is a great work you have been able to put together today and I want to commend everybody.

I am also happy that we have passed the amendments very early. My concern has always been that if we don’t do it now, it will get more difficult as we get near to the 2019 elections.

” The Senate is expected to transmit the bill to the House of representatives for concurrence.

Senate Gives Five Conditions for Peace with President Buhari

Senate Gives Five Conditions for Peace with President Buhari

Following yesterday's directive by President Buhari durng the Federal Executive Council to set up a committee to settle the rift between the Executive and Legislature, Nigerian Senate has reacted with conditions.

The Senate has reacted to the setting up of a committee by the Federal Executive Council to settle the rift between it and the National Assembly with five conditions that must be met for peace to reign, DailyTrust reports.

The Senate through a ranking senator (name withheld) who is close to the leadership of the senate identified five conditions for peace to reign between the executive and the legislative arm of government.

He said for peace to prevail between the presidency and the senate, the trial of the senate president, Bukola Saraki should be discontinued forthwith.

"The trial of Saraki is central to the crisis because it is believed that they came up with it because he ‘violated’ the interest of the presidency and the party (APC) to emerge the senate president. If his trial is stopped, there would be peace," he said.

He added that irrespective of the peace moves by the executive, the camps within the presidency must be united, otherwise they will continue to use the senate against each other.

“A camp in the presidency is using the senate against another. This is the second issue that must be addressed for peace to reign. Buhari should dissolve the camp, otherwise no serious progress would be made,” he added.

He also said, the head of government agencies including ministers must be made to respect senate resolutions. “If a resolution is passed, the executive doesn’t respect it, there is general contempt against us. This must stop,” he said.

He said there was urgent need for the president to engage the leadership of the APC for proper coordination of the party’s caucus at the senate.

“The president must be talking to the party for it to be talking to caucus. If the president is bringing anything to the senate, the party should be involved.

The fifth one is that there is no personal communication between the senators and the president. There is need for this,” he said.

When DailyTrust contacted the spokesperson of the senate, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, he said: “You are just telling me now. I’m not aware of such committee and I don’t know its terms of reference.”

Another source disclosed that there are issues between the presidency and the two chambers of the National Assembly, not only the Senate.

“Frankly speaking, there are issues with both chambers. Yes, that of the Senate may be pronounced, but there are issues with the House as well.

How can you increase the budget of the judiciary by N30bn without increasing that of the legislature? The lawmakers are not happy with this.

“Again, the president doesn’t see them as anything. He treats them with disdain, and it’s the fault of his aides. He doesn’t meet lawmakers privately to discuss issues, which wasn’t the case in the past. They’re only managing to work with him.

“There were instances that the president would travel to a place with the Senate President and the Speaker, but he would be distanced from meeting the National Assembly leaders.

All these things may be small, but they’re important as far as their relationship is concerned.

The House is only managing the relationship, while that of the Senate seems to go out of hand.

“As I speak with you, there are lawmakers that are not principal officers, but they have unfettered access to the Villa, while principal officers don’t. If anything comes up, those lawmakers that are just committee chairmen can’t do anything to defend the president.

“For me, the way out is for the president to open up and make himself accessible to the lawmakers. He should know that it’s not a one-man show. He should respect them the way they respect him,” the source said.

Another lawmaker said there are no serious issues between the House and the presidency but that the attitude of some heads of government agencies toward the lower chamber was unbecoming.

“There are no real issues that one can say are pronounced. The issues we have mostly have to do with heads of agencies. Sometime when we invite them, they don’t want to appear until we now summon them.

“As a parliament, we have powers to invite anybody to appear before us on an issue, but they give flimsy excuses here and there. That notwithstanding, we don’t have issues with the presidency currently.

“The real issues are in the Senate. In fact, at some point, the speaker was trying to mediate between the Senate and the presidency, that’s to tell you we don’t have issues with them.

May be the presidency sensed that the suspension of Ndume may lead to other things, that is why they quickly swung into action,” the lawmaker said.

Lawmaker Vows to Poison Himself If Ex-President's Brother is Not Sent to Prison

Lawmaker Vows to Poison Himself If Ex-President's Brother is Not Sent to Prison

A really aggrieved lawmaker has promised to poison himself if an ex president's brother is not sent to prison.

A member of of the Ghanaian Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has said that he is prepared to end his life if the brother of the former President, Ibrahim Mahama is not jailed.

According to the NPP MP, he would take in a poisonous substance if he escapes a jail sentence during the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vibe Ghana reported.

“I will take in poison and kill myself if Ibrahim Mahama is not jailed, he should watch and hear me well, I will take in poison and die if Ibrahim is not jailed…,” he threatened on Adom TV’s Badwam on Thursday.

Tension have existed between the two business gurus over some years now with the Assin Central MP mostly accusing the brother of the former President of engaging in various acts that have led to the country losing huge sums.

Ibrahim Mahama on rare occasions come public to diffuse most of the claims by the Assin Central MP with the latest being Ibrahim warning Ken Agyapong to desist from dragging his name into the mad.

“Go n tell him (Ken) that I can be more ruthless than he thinks he is but, I just respect myself, my family and Ghanaian people hence; I have restrained myself following him into the gutter in spite of his numerous unsubstantiated and wild allegations and most of the time, pure lies.”

“Tell Ken that by the grace of God I have long been blessed before John (John Mahama) became Vice-president and later President… is it my fault that my senior brother climbed to those heights?

Is it my fault that I am where I am today…I’m not God to determine others’ future and I’m content with what God has gifted me…I don’t compete with anyone neither do I envy those before me and even those after me. It is God’s wish,” the Al Hajj Newspaper reported him as saying in an interview in January 2017.

Three months later, Ken Agyapong is after Ibrahim Mahama again; this time bearing documents he claimed are evidence that support some of his claims.

NDC MP for Juaboso, Kwabena Minta Akandoh who was on the show with him responded that Ken’s allegations were just part of the means of diverting attention from the shameful act of the party’s Delta Forces in the Ashanti Region.

The former Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources further urged the NPP MP to stop ‘talking like an MP in opposition’ and rather provide his evidence to the security to be acted upon.

Ifeanyi Ubah Detained by the DSS? Billionaire Businessman Addresses Online Reports of Arrest

The billionaire chairman and founder of Capital Oil, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, who was allegedly arrested and detained by the Department of State Services, has addressed the reports.

Reports emerged online earlier today that multi-billionaire businessman, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah was reportedly arrested and detained by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS)

While speaking excluisvely to The Guardian on the telephone on Thursday, the oil magnate who is chairman of Capital Oil & Gas as well as Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club, debunked speculations that he was arrested by Nigeria's secret Police, adding that the rumours were a propaganda against him.

A Nigerian pilot identified as Ademilola 'Lola' Odujinrin has become the first African pilot in history to fly solo around the world after he completed the final leg of his historic journey on Wednesday afternoon, landing safely at Washington Dulles International Airport.

According to Punch newspaper, the pilot who works for Air Djibouti, completed the entire circumnavigation in a Cirrus SR22, stopping in more than 15 countries on five continents, returning to Washington DC, where his journey began back in September.

The flight is part of Project Transcend, a foundation which aims to inspire young people to achieve their goals, regardless of their personal circumstances.

While speaking on his historic feat, Ademilola says: “Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of one day flying around the world. We have a responsibility to lead by example and follow our dreams. I want African children to think: ‘I can do this too!'

"I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Air Djibouti’s Chairman, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, and Cardiff Aviation’s Chairman, Bruce Dickinson, who have supported me throughout this journey. Without them, this would not have been possible."

Both men formed the part of a high-level delegation to welcome the historic aviator on the tarmac at Dulles Airport, including: the Ambassador of Djibouti to the United States, His Excellency, Mr. Mohamed Siad Doualeh; Senior Director of Strategic Planning for Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority, Mr. Dawit Michael Gebre-ab; and Chief Operating Officer of Air Djibouti, Mr. Moussa Houssein.

The Chairman of Air Djibouti, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, says: “By supporting initiatives like Lola’s flight around the world, Air Djibouti hopes to inspire a new generation of pilots in Africa and help to pave the way for the aviation industry to thrive in the region.

“The benefits will be felt within the region, as this will encourage more intra-African trade and sustainable economic development.

“With the commencement of the Single African Air Transport Market set for June 2017, air travel in the continent is positioned to grow rapidly and become a key contributor to the region’s economic and social development.”

Crisis-hit Messi And Argentina Risk Missing World Cup

Crisis-hit Messi And Argentina Risk Missing World Cup

The world’s top-ranked football nation Argentina risk failing to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1970 after Lionel Messi’s suspension and a humiliating defeat to Bolivia.

The two-time world champions’ woes deepened just as the Argentine Football Association (AFA) named new executives on Wednesday.

They are ostensibly tasked with ending three years of turmoil in the Argentine game, but analysts said the appointments were politically influenced.

The defeat by Bolivia sparked press rumors that one of the new AFA management’s first moves may be to fire coach Edgardo Bauza.

But it may be too late to get La Albiceleste on the plane to Russia to entertain fans across the globe at next year’s World Cup.

FIFA hit Argentina’s star striker Messi with a four-match ban on Tuesday for swearing at an assistant referee in a game against Chile last week. “Four games is outrageous.

There are malicious fouls that only get a two-game ban, and this was just verbal abuse,” said former Argentina coach Cesar Menotti.

Argentina’s World Cup hero Diego Maradona said he was ready to lead an appeal to FIFA against Messi’s ban, but it is rare for the sport’s governing world body to repeal a suspension.

Like it or not, then, Messi will be out of three of Argentina’s four remaining World Cup qualification matches, having served the first game of his ban on Tuesday.

His absence forced a hasty reshuffle by Bauza to the starting line-up against Bolivia. Struggling in the thin mountain air of La Paz under stand-in captain Ever Banega, they slumped to a 2-0 defeat.

They dropped from third to fifth place in the regional table — out of the top-four automatic qualifying positions. “We are alive and intend to qualify for the World Cup,” Bauza insisted. “We are strong enough to carry on.”

But Argentina have won only one of eight World Cup 2018 qualifiers played without the Barcelona superstar, compared to five out of six won with him on the pitch.

Compounding their woes, their defender Ramiro Funes Mori of Everton was stretchered off the field Tuesday with what looked like a knee injury.

– Management crisis –

Argentina have been undermined by a broader crisis afflicting the Argentina game, tangled up with politics. A power struggle broke out after the death of former AFA president Julio Grondona in 2014.

Maradona last year branded the AFA’s management a “mafia.” Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri too complained of “the poor organization of Argentine football.” He urged reform to “a system full of bad habits and corruption.”

FIFA and the Argentine courts have probed the AFA’s affairs. On Wednesday, AFA members voted in three new executives to head the body which oversees the national squad and the Argentine domestic league.

They voted third-division Barracas Central coach Claudio Tapia, 49, as the association’s president. His deputy will be the chairman of top side Boca Juniors, Daniel Angelici, 52, — a close ally of Macri.

The new number three in the AFA is Hugo Moyano, a prominent labor union leader and Tapia’s father-in-law.

Analysts say Moyano will be the real power in the AFA, having been thrown a sop by Macri to calm union opposition ahead of legislative elections this year.Sociologist Gabriel Puricelli told AFP the move was “clearly a gesture towards Moyano and the unions.”

Moyano is an influential figure in the CGT labor union, which has been waging protests against Macri over economic cutbacks. Political scientist Rosendo Fraga of consultancy Nueva Mayoria said “the idea of an accord between Macri and Moyano has been talked about in political circles.”

I’m Not The Evil Many Think I am And I Did Not Steal $12.8Billion'', says IBB
 Gen Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida,retd

On a session with members of the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Minna, Niger State Gen Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, retd was asked

Looking back, which of the policies of your time do you wish was never misinterpreted?

I am not the evil that quite a lot of people consider me to be. I had a very excellent background and by training, we have to love one another.

However, I can understand their feeling.

But by virtue of the job I was doing, I was bound to be misconstrued and people will take it like that but I consider it as an opinion as long as I am not what you think I was, I feel satisfied.

I read somewhere some time ago that they said I stole N12.8 billion and I said if I stole such amount, I had no business staying in the country but those are the type of things that one has to live with.

I hope the younger generation will carry out a research about leadership, people, individual and what role they played in the development of the nation and come up with a different conclusion from what is on the ground now.

A Ward Councillor, Wilson Machingambi, said angry parents withdrew their children from the school prompting authorities to suspend lessons.

Activists Shutdown London Airport, Halt Deportation of Nigerians, Ghanaians

Activists Shutdown London Airport, Halt Deportation of Nigerians, Ghanaians

The mass deportation of Nigeria and Ghanaian citizens by British authorities, on Wednesday, took a dramatic turn as activists shutdown the airport where some were seen lying on the tarmac.

Activists in London have prevented the mass deportation of Nigerians and Ghanaians who failed to secure asylum in the United Kingdom, according to a report by Punch.

British media reports revealed that the activists, who operated under a group called Stop Charter Flights – End Deportations, blocked the runway of the Stansted airport carrying banners and chanting songs condemning deportations.

A video recording showed some of them were under the wing of a plane, while some others chained themselves to the runway, and as a result of the protests, several flights scheduled to land at the airport were diverted.

Members of Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants and Plane Stupid also participated in the campaign.

A member of Plane Stupid, which is a group of environmental protesters seeking an end to airport expansion, Audre Lourde, explained to a website why it took part in the protest.

She was quoted as saying, “There’s no such thing as a single issue campaign, because we do not live single issue lives.

We do not see ourselves as ‘environmentalists’, nor do we see the fight against airport expansion or the fight against climate change as isolated from any other issue.

“Airport expansion is a form of violence and a form of oppression, one that a minority of people will benefit from the profits, whilst countless people will suffer from loss of community and health, both locally and globally.”

The campaigners also shared what they said were testimonies by potential deportees.

A gay Nigerian who was to be deported was quoted as saying, “The present Nigerian situation is designed to kill gay people.”

Another male deportee from Ghana said, “I have been in this country for almost 18 years. My family and my life is here in the UK. If they take me back to Ghana I will kill myself.”

A woman was afraid her ex-husband would kill her if she is deported. “My ex-husband said he knows I am being deported. He is waiting for me. He is planning to kill me. If he kills me- who will I look after my children?”

Whistle Blower: Shock as UNIABUJA Sacks Two Senior Staff for Exposing Corruption in the University

Whistle Blower: Shock as UNIABUJA Sacks Two Senior Staff for Exposing Corruption in the University

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has called on the Federal Government to protect the whistle blowers especially two UNIABUJA staff sacked by the institution.

After placing them two senior staff of the University of Abuja on suspension for eight months for dragging the management of the university to the anti-graft agencies, the Governing Council of the university has sacked the duo for alleged insubordination.

In a report by Vanguard, it was revealed that the two staff had exposed massive corruption in the institution which drew the ire of school management.

However, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has called on the Federal Government to protect the whistle blowers in a bid to fight corruption in the system.

Termination of the appointments of the two staff came just four days after the burial of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Samuel Ogbemudia, in Benin City, as the Governing Council convened meeting on 22nd and 23rd of March 2017, to effect the sack.

Meantime, SSANU has stated that the Federal Government was too slow to wield the big stick on perpetrators of corrupt practices, either as convicts or suspects under investigation/trial as in the cases in the Nigerian University system in recent times.

SSANU in a statement issued yesterday and signed by its National President, Comrade Samson Chijioke Ugwoke, said the suspension and termination of appointments of the two staff of the University as a result of whistle blowing, constituted a gross violation of the Whistle Blowing Policy of the present administration, which should not go unpunished.

The union has called for the reversal of the termination of the appointments of the affected members, Comrades Jude Nwabueze and Nurrudeen Yusuf by the Management and Council of University within one week.

SSANU also demanded that the Management and Council of University of Abuja should tender a strong apology to the Federal Government and the Nigerian citizens for allegedly defying the orders of Government and disregarding constituted authorities.

According to the statement, “The Union, SSANU, wishes to bring to the notice of the Nigerian public and the world at large that the reason the Management of the University gave for the said termination of the appointments is false.

It is because of whistle blowing and Union activities, and not insubordination as alleged. SSANU therefore wants to put the records straight.

“The Management of the University of Abuja got itself engulfed in unauthorized recruitment of staff without following due process, thus over bloating the system.

“When the government of President Muhammadu Buhari came to power and it was no more business as usual, coupled with the recession that greeted the Country, the Budget Office stuck to the release of the actual budgetary provision for all MDAs.

“This led to “perceived shortfall in the university (Abuja) in 2015 as the University could not pay the entire staff their correct salaries.

This and many other demands of the Union (SSANU) in University of Abuja, including unpaid arrears of promotion and other welfare issues of members, gave rise to the crisis which HEIGHTENED in 2015.

“The Management failed to honour her own side of the Memorandum of Understanding it entered into with the Union that would have ended the crisis in the early times.

The Union had to cry out to the Federal Government (whistle blowing) for intervention. Does this constitute acts of insubordination?”

SSANU in the statement further stated, “The Management of University of Abuja began dealing with the issues in contention initially by inviting the two staff in their capacities as SSANU Chairman and Secretary along with the other Exco members to meetings where some understandings were reached that would have nipped the problems in the bud.

“The failure of Management to do the needful led to the externalization of the matter (i.e. to Government and the public through the Press) by the Union.

This angered the Management who decided to single out the Chairman and Secretary (i.e. Jude Nwabueze and Nurudeen Yusuf) and issued queries to them, this time as staff of the University transport and health services units respectively (no more as SSANU leaders).

“The Management also went ahead to suspend the duo without salary (not even half salary) and without any defined period as is the practice in the Nigerian University System and public service. Consequently, they have been on suspension without salary for the past eight months.

“The University Governing Council Disciplinary Committee that eventually recommended the dismissal of the two staff (Officers of SSANU) did not even bother to give them any fair hearing before conviction, neither did the Council, though illegally convened, see this procedure as faulty.

“All principles of natural justice were jettisoned.

The public may also wish to know that there was disagreement among the members of the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee which led to incomplete signature of all members.”

Commenting on the legality of the meeting of the Governing Council that allegedly terminated the appointment of the two staff, SSANU said, “The meeting of the Governing Council was convened on 22nd and 23rd of March 2017, barely four (4) days after the burial of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Samuel Ogbemudia, in Benin City.

“The respect accorded Elder Statesmen in this part of the world was thrown to the wind, all in a bid to hurriedly disengage some persons from their source of daily living in the guise of insubordination. Courtesy demands that the Council meeting would have waited at least two weeks as a mark of respect.

“In a rational setting, the vacuum created by the death of the Pro-Chancellor would have been filled, even if it is in acting capacity.

This was not done. Neither was there any clearance or permission obtained from the Honourable Minister of Education for the said meeting.

“The meeting was therefore not properly convened as required by law. As it stands, the Vice-Chancellor, in conspiracy with some of his cronies in the Council, connived to hold this illegal council meeting.

From the proceedings of the meeting, it appears as if the major reason for the “emergency” meeting was to disengage these two staff.

“The public may wish to know that the tenure of the present Council has expired and Government has put machineries in place to constitute a new one.

This is probably why the Vice-Chancellor, out of desperation to send these two packing, knowing fully that he may not elicit the support of the incoming Council to do the dirty job, connived with some members to hurriedly convene the meeting to quickly execute his agenda.

“It is also important to inform that the Council did not reach any conclusion on the matter whether or not to dismiss or terminate the staff, because inside sourceS revealed that the issue of the legality of the Council meeting surfaced during the session and it became so weighty that no meaningful decision could be taken that would stand.

“Therefore, at what point did the decision to terminate the appointment of the duo came to be, and who gave the directive that the termination letters be issued?”

Disregard for government policy

“Whistle blowing became prominent with the Whistle Blowing Policy of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration, which encourages Nigerians to expose corrupt persons and especially, public office holders.

The policy also tends to protect whistle blowers from any act of intimidation or punishment in the hands of the superiors or establishments.

“The suspension and the so-called termination of these two staff of University of Abuja, which by all ramifications is as a result of whistle blowing, constitutes a gross violation of the Whistle Blowing Policy of the present administration, which should not go unpunished.

“It could be deduced here that the Management of the University, currently being investigated over alleged corruption, hurriedly took this action so as to distort the investigation, since the two will now be considered outsiders to the University.

“It is also important for the public to know that SSANU at the National Level, had taken several steps including initiating, visiting and holding about three meetings with the University Management, all in a bid to resolve the crisis, but failed because the Management would not want the matter resolved.

“The Union therefore reported the matter to the Federal Ministries of Education, and Labour and Employment for their intervention.

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has finished with the preliminaries and has scheduled a meeting of the Union with the university management for Wednesday, 5th April, 2017.

“The University Management is aware of this development as they have been duly communicated. Why then this hurried action of the University Management when relevant bodies saddled with the responsibilities to resolve industrial disputes are already intervening?

“All the Vice Chancellors under trial in court and those being investigated to the point of arraignment are still maintaining their seats.

Are they above the law? At least, it is on record that all judges under investigation/trial have stepped aside. Why not the Vice Chancellors?”

The union urged the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education to re-build the confidence of the masses on the protection clause of the whistle blowing policy by immediately dissolving the Governing Council of University of Abuja before the planned general dissolution of others.

It further called the government to “remove the Vice-Chancellor and the Principal Officers of the University for acts of insubordination to the Federal Government of Nigeria, especially the Registrar for incompetence, advising the Management and the Council wrongly and guiding them to take a very wrong and unpopular decision.

This will serve as deterrent to other Chief Executives.”

SSANU also called on all well meaning people of this country to “prevail on the University of Abuja administration and FGN to do the needful to avoid throwing the Nigerian University System into another round of crisis; and also re-build the confidence on the masses in the fight against corruption.

These should be done quickly in the interest of industrial peace in the university and the country at large.”

Family and friends have been left totally distraught after a childless woman was found hanging from a fan in an Anambra community.

Mrs. Lovina Odo, a 38-year-old petty trader, has been found hanging on a rope tied to a ceiling fan at No. 1, Ukpaka lane, Umusiome village, Nkpor-agu near Onitsha in Anambra State.

She is thought to have killed herself.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident occurred on March 28 at about 5 p.m.

The husband of the deceased, Mr. Okechukwu Odo, said he and Lovina had been married for over eight years without a child.

Odo, a car washer, said he returned home from work at about 6:30pm and met sympathisers around his one-room apartment.

“I left home for work that morning after taking my breakfast; she had asked me to buy a tuber of yam for dinner on my way from work.

“When I returned, I saw people gathered around my apartment, only to be told that my wife had committed suicide,” he said.

The Divisional Police Officer of Ogidi, CSP Hassan Musa, confirmed the story, and said that the corpse of Lovina had been removed and deposited at the Mortuary of Iyienu Mission Hospital.

“No suicide note was seen around, her but preliminary investigation reveals that she might have committed suicide because she had no child,” Musa said.

Buhari's Government Has Failed Nigerian Pensioners - Dogara

Buhari's Government Has Failed Nigerian Pensioners - Dogara

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has accepted blame over the Federal Government's failure to pay Nigerian pensioners.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, on Wednesday accepted that the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed Nigerian pensioners for failing to pay them their benefits as at when due.

This comes as many of the pensioners have died while waiting to be paid their dues under the Defined Benefit Scheme and the Contributory Pension Scheme. Both schemes have been poorly funded by the government.

“The failure is on all of us; those of us in the legislature and those in the executive.

“I will not say the executive alone. All of us failed and we must accept the responsibility.

“I will accept the blame on behalf of the government and apologise to pensioners”, Dogara said.

The Speaker said this while interacting with a delegation of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners led by the National President, Dr. Abel Afoloyan. Afoloyan said they came to the House as a last resort, having exhausted all avenues to get the government to pay pension benefits.

The speaker assured the elderly retirees that the House would take practical steps as from Thursday (today) by passing a resolution to summon top officials of the government to give explanations.

Speaking earlier, Afoloyan painted a pathetic picture of the pain of the pensioners.

“Pensioners have become endangered species and prone to all kinds of diseases, which are age-related and need money for treatment”, he told Dogara.
