A female prison warder has been arrested after she was caught smuggling alcohol to prisoners in Kirikiri Maximum prison. The warder who was attached to the Kirikiri female prison in Lagos has been dismissed following investigation that revealed that she committed the offence.
In a statement by Mr Francis Enobore who is the spokesperson of the Nigerian Prison Service which was signed by Agun Olatunji on behalf of the controller-general of prisons, he said the staff was found guilty of negative activities which borders on trafficking.
The offense is usually viewed seriously because of its potential threat to security. The arrest of the wardress is certainly an indication of the dawn of a new era in prison management in Nigeria and a justification of the recent mass re-deployment of officers and men nationwide to strengthen security.”
