Revealed: Inside the Sordid Tale Of Mutual Infidelity and Financial Crisis That Crashed Mercy Aigbe's Marriage

Revealed: Inside the Sordid Tale Of Mutual Infidelity and Financial Crisis That Crashed Mercy Aigbe's Marriage
New details have emerged on the situations that led to the recent crash of Mercy Aigbe's 7-year-old marriage.

The NET reports that according to the well placed source, ‘The man has a hotel where Lagos-based actors and actresses use to shoot their movies, but the business was mismanaged and nobody goes there anymore.

‘As of now, he doesn’t have any business going on for him. How many wide-mouthed actresses can live with that type of hopelessness?

The situation has gotten so bad that now Mercy can openly cavort with the politicians that have been on her case since. I’m sure that in no time, her shop in Omole will be shifted to Lekki as she has always dreamed of.’

The last straw that broke the camel’s back for the couple was a combination of Mercy’s sudden boldness and her husband’s latest fling with a very close associate of hers. Opemititi, as the Covenant University graduate is called, was very close to Mercy.

She had been said to have taken the younger woman under her wings, even introducing her to some ‘sugar daddies’ that flushed her with cash that she left her bank job for a flimsy interior decor business that had little or no structure.

Mercy had trusted her so much because of the secrets they both shared it is was shocking to her that this person could betray her by sleeping with her husband.

Consequently, she cut Opemititi off from her in the last one month and decided to duke it out with her husband.
The issues eventually overheated and spilled into a fight that many couples could have overlooked.

Gentry asked Aigbe to cook a special meal for him and his friends. She refused to do so and her husband pounced on her as he had reportedly done in the past.

But by now, Mercy Aigbe had had enough and fought back bitterly, lashing out from all the pain and anger of several years. Unsurprisingly, his strength was incomparable to hers and he beat her to a pulp.

For Mercy, that was one beating too many and she began divorce proceedings when she was strong enough to leave a private hospital where she had been receiving treatment.
Revealed: Inside the Sordid Tale Of Mutual Infidelity and Financial Crisis That Crashed Mercy Aigbe's Marriage
For a couple who had made such a big show of being endlessly in love with each other, their sad end was enabled by a long period of resentment caused by both parties’ infidelity to the other.

Eventually, Instagram posts were not enough to save the marriage, and instead became where the Aigbe-Gentrys ended their seven-year nuptials.

For now, the actress is holed up in a Magodo apartment while her husband is exploring his options in a divorce proceeding, seeing that of all the three women that have children for him, Mercy is the only one who he married and might lose all he has worked for should the case go in her favour.

‘The two other women who have children for Lanre are currently laughing at him because as things stand now, he’s the biggest loser,‘ the source concluded

Unbelievable: I greeted ooni of Ife in accordance with the culture of Lagos-Oba Akiolu of Lagos

Unbelievable: I greeted ooni of Ife in accordance with the culture of Lagos-Oba Akiolu of Lagos

Rilwan Akiolu, the oba of Lagos, says he did not shun the greeting of Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the ooni of Ife, at a recent public function.

A viral video had shown the monarch failing to acknowledge the greeting of the ooni of Ife at an event in Lagos.

But Akiolu, speaking through Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, one of his chiefs, said the perceived snubbing of the ooni of Ife was the cultural way of greeting by a monarch in Lagos.

“Other tribes also have their peculiar ways of greeting. The sign by Oba Akiolu signifies, ‘inu mi, inu e’, the culture of greeting in Lagos.

If Oba Akiolu wanted to ignore, he would have turned his face away from Ooni. There is no misunderstanding between both highly revered monarchs in Yoruba Land,” he said.

“Oba Akiolu was well represented at the coronation of Ooni of Ife, which attested to the fact that he does not disregard the office of Ooni Adeyeye.

“There is no sentiment in the culture of Lagos. As we met it that is the way we are doing it. Kabiyesi Oba Akiolu is trying to bring back the old pattern, the old culture we have left behind.

“What happened that day was wrongly speculated by the social media to disrupt peace and order and misinterpret Oba Akiolu’s action.

“We just want to appeal to the social media to stop spreading wrong information.

They should try and understand the reason behind every action carried out most especially by traditional rulers. Yoruba has a very rich culture. There is no quarrel between the Oba of Lagos and Ooni of Ife.”

Herdsmen invade Soyinka’s residence

Herdsmen invade Soyinka’s residence

Suspected herdsmen have invaded the residence of Wole Soyinka, renowned playwright and professor, in Ogun state.

The scholar disclosed this on Friday while speaking at a forum in Freedom Park, Lagos.

“We are living in dangerous times. My home is under invasion… From Imeko to Abeokuta is under invasion by herdsmen,” he said.

“This is a deliberate act of provocation. The trespasses have been frequent, we have reported to the police, but government is taking security lightly. We need to wake up the government, let them know the seriousness of the issue on ground; these herdsmen are worse than Boko Haram.”

Soyinka, who said the mentality of herdsmen had changed, advised government to use drone in tracking them.

He also opposed the establishment of grazing reserves, saying that would worsen the problem.

“Creating corridor for cattle grazing will compound the problem, I do not think that is the solution,” he said.

In April 2016, Soyinka had raised the alarm over the invasion of his residence at a time when he was abroad.

Angry Mother Disowns Son for Behaving Like Bobrisky

An angry mother who does not approve of his son's lifestyle has disowned him for making up like a woman.

A man identified as Jauan Durbin, 18, has revealed that his mother has disowned him after discovering he wears makeup. Durbin is known to behave and apply makeup to his face like a Nigerian man named Bobrisky who also wears female clothes.

The Morehouse College freshman tweeted out a screenshot of a text conversation with his mom where she expressed her extreme disappointment with his choices.

“I do not approve of this bullshyt,” she wrote. “[What the hell] is wrong with you? I am so disappointed. You are a male. [Why the hell] do you have on eyelashes, eyebrows and makeup? I’m completely done.”

Jauan responded back with a firm “OK”, but he captioned the tweet with this:

“This hurts. It really does. But I’m going to live my truth until the day I die.”

Since making the post on Saturday, Jauan’s tweet has been retweeted over 5,000 times and liked by more than 14,000 people.

While there’s been tons of support for the young man, unfortunately there are those who agree with his mother and, worse still, those who have mocked him. Jauan and his mother have not communicated since she discovered the viral tweet.

“I believe that my mom will come around eventually,” he said. “I didn’t do this to upset my mom. Throughout the whole process I’ve tried to take myself out of the process figuratively because there’s people that see themselves in me and I want the message to go out to children that it’s okay to be you and you shouldn’t change who you are for anyone.

Fear as Buhari Misses Friday's Juma'at Service in Aso Villa

President Muhammadu Buhari has missed his usual Juma'at prayer service he normally attends inside a mosque near his office.

President Muhammadu Buhari was on Friday absent at the Juma’at service held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Punch reports.

His absence might not be unrelated with his lingering health issues.

The President has been joining Muslim faithful for the prayers inside a mosque near his office since he stopped attending the service at the National Mosque, Abuja.

Three state governors who apparently planned to join Buhari for the prayers were however present.

The governors who attended the prayer session included Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun); Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara); and Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano).

The Presidency is yet to comment on the reasons for Buhari's absence.

The news of his absence has seen many speculating that the President might be experiencing health challenges.

BREAKING News: Nnamdi Kanu Set for Release as Prison Officials Hand Over Belongings to Family

BREAKING News: Nnamdi Kanu Set for Release as Prison Officials Hand Over Belongings to Family

The renowned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is set to walk freely in the streets once again as he is set to be released from Kuje Prison after meeting his bail conditions.

The Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, is on the verge of being released from Kuje Prison, Abuja after spending nearly two years in detention as ordered by the President Muhamamdu Buhari-led federal government.

Recall that we had reported a few days ago that the renowned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was granted bail by Justice Binta Nyako at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, under very stringent conditions which include producing a Jew Rabbi as surety.

According to a new report by Saharareporters on Friday, Nnamdi Kanu's impending release followed series of negotiations between politicians and activists from the south east region with members of Buhari's government as a way of dousing tension that has arisen due to renewed agitation by pro-Biafra separatists spearheaded by Kanu and others.

Kuje Prison authorities have released Kanu's personal effects to his family while awaiting documents for his release to be perfected by his lawyers and government officials.

Kanu was seen on Friday meeting with prisoners who had enjoyed favors from him during his detention.

It was also learnt that the Biafran leader would meet with several politicians and activists to discuss how to bring more people to work with him soon after his release.

“Kanu will leave later today or latest Tuesday next week if everything works as planned,” a source knowledgeable of his bail processing said.

Saraki, El-Rufai instigated Buhari not to pick me as VP – Tinubu

Saraki, El-Rufai instigated Buhari not to pick me as VP – Tinubu

A National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has alleged that Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, worked against the plan to make him President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in the 2015 presidential election.

Tinubu stated that Saraki, El-Rufai and other stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party, who defected to the APC in the build-up to the 2015 elections, instigated Buhari and some APC chieftains not to pick him as the would-be Vice-President.

The APC leader’s comments were contained in a book titled ‘Against the Run of Play,’ written by the Chairman, Editorial Board of ThisDay, Olusegun Adeniyi.

Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State, said his opponents persuaded Buhari to look for another running mate on the grounds that Christians in the North would not embrace a Muslim-Muslim ticket, and as such, could jeopardise the party’s victory.

The former governor said the arguments put forward by the party members were not genuine, adding that El-Rufai had the intention to ensure the emergence of the Serving Overseer of The Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Buhari’s running mate.

Tinubu added, “What they (Saraki and others from the PDP) did behind my back was wrong. We always do things as a group. By the time they joined, we were already too far ahead in our processes but we accommodated them.

“We agreed to take their state structures and subsume them into the part and they all had their opportunity to nominate the candidates of their choices for different political offices.

“But they went behind to instigate Buhari and some other people in the party against me on the pretext of religion. That was not right. They were canvassing arguments that the Christians in the North would not vote for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“Nasir el-Rufai was also selling the same argument within the CPC (the defunct Congress for Progressive Change) because at that point, he still wanted to have Pastor Bakare brought in as Buhari’s running mate.”

Tinubu stated that some senators and governors then, who defected from the PDP to the APC, met with him on the eve of the primaries to know if there was an agreement between him and Buhari to run together.

He said he evaded the inquiry, which compelled the allies to join him in canvassing for Buhari as the right presidential candidate of the party.

“I told them that it was better to resolve such issue after the primaries, but they wanted to make it a condition for supporting Buhari, which, for me, was very wrong. I told them I could not insist on this as a condition for my support for Buhari. I felt that was not right to hold Buhari hostage in this manner.

“I believe the support that we gave was fundamental to Buhari clinching the party nomination. Without that support, a different outcome would have been most likely,” Tinubu added.

He noted that Buhari later requested him to nominate three persons for the job, but he (Tinubu) presented only Yemi Osinbajo as his ultimate choice.

“I backed down because I did not want to be depicted as causing a problem. I backed away from the position in order to offer Buhari a name I once raised with him in 2011: that of Professor Yemi Osibanjo,” he added.

2015 election, outcome of Nigerians will, US replies to Jonathan

Meanwhile, the United States, on Wednesday, declared that the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 was the expression of the will of Nigerians.

The US government said this in response to allegations by Jonathan that his electoral defeat in the 2015 election was partly caused by former US President Barack Obama and his officials.

He alleged that the US worked with France and the United Kingdom to frustrate his failed re-election bid in 2015.

“The US advocated a free, fair and transparent election. The election outcome was an expression of the will of the Nigerian people,” the US embassy spokesman, Russel Brooks, said on Wednesday.

I advised Jonathan against appointing Diezani petroleum minister – Obasanjo

Meanwhile, former President Olusegun Obasanjo claimed he advised ex-President Goodluck Jonathan against giving Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke a critical portfolio.

The ex-President stated that there were decisions taken by Jonathan early in his administration that showed that the Presidency was too big for him.

According to him, one of such decisions was the appointment of Alison-Madueke as the Minister of Petroleum Resources.

“He (Jonathan) gave me the impression that he was not going to give her the portfolio (petroleum ministry), but at the end, he did and we can see the consequences. He, of course, knew what he was doing,” he stated.

‘In 2011, I pleaded with prominent northerners to let Jonathan run for a term’

Obasanjo also explained why he supported Jonathan to contest the 2011 presidential election.

He said he pleaded with prominent people in the North to allow Jonathan run for a term.

The former President explained that he met with many northern leaders to explain to them why he endorsed Jonathan for the 2011 presidential election.

Obasanjo stated, “I saw the emergence of Jonathan as an opportunity to solve the problem of minority agitation. The three majority ethnic groups in Nigeria can always sort themselves out, but not so for the minority.

“A good example is my state here in Ogun. Despite the best intentions, nobody from Ogun West has been able to become governor because of this minority issue and it will take a conscious effort to make it happen. So, it was in that contest that I had to plead with prominent people in the North to allow Jonathan run for a term.”

US not comfortable with Jonathan as Yar’Adua’s successor

The book also stated that there were indications that the United States was not comfortable with Jonathan as a successor of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua.

These facts emerged from WikiLeaks’ publications of the US Department of State memos.

The book cited a memo, dated December 1, 2009, written by the then US Ambassador, Robin Sanders.

“Dark rumours about Yar’Adua’s health have given way to broad fears that Yar’Adua is likely entering his final days,” it stated.

Giving its verdict on the then Vice-President Jonathan, the US embassy wrote, “We are preparing a report (septel) on the baggage that Jonathan will carry with him into the state House as there have been past reports of corruption, political thuggery and payments to ‘militant factions’ from his days as Governor of Bayelsa State as well as questions about his competency in general.”

The US embassy cable, according to the book, also cited  $13.5m allegedly seized by the EFCC from Jonathan’s wife,  Dame Patience.

Woman allegedly incurs N757,000 debt at Lagos bar

Woman allegedly incurs N757,000 debt at Lagos bar
file copy for illustratve purpose

A bar operator on Lekki Beach Road, Ademola Ogunbona, says he has lost his livelihood to the alleged debt of N757,750 incurred by one Mrs. Shaw, aka Mama G.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the woman had gone to the bar around 6am on August 15, 2016, to have fun, which lasted till about 1am the following day.

It was said that Mama G instructed the barman to serve customers that came to the bar throughout her stay, and promised to pick up the bill for the drinks they consumed.

Our correspondent gathered that one of the major beneficiaries of Mama G’s gesture was a man who came to the bar with his friends at about 6.30pm to celebrate his birthday.

She allegedly ordered many rounds of drinks for the man and his friends and told Ogunbona to add their bill to hers.

However, at about 1am, when she had reportedly become inebriated, some persons were said to have stormed the bar and took her away in a Honda car to Rotary Garden Estate, Ilasan, Ajah, where she lives with her husband.

In a chat with PUNCH Metro, Ogunbona said he, two of his workers and the chief security officer of the shops in the area followed the car, but the security guards at the estate gate did not allow them in.

He said, “Mama G came to my bar at about 6am on August 15, 2016, and ordered drinks.

She told me to serve everybody that came to the bar and promised to pay. In the afternoon, I told her that her bill was over N200,000. She slapped my face and asked me whether she looked like a debtor.

“She said I should serve very expensive drinks to whoever came to the bar.

She even called some beggars who were passing by into the bar to drink. Around 6.30pm, a man came into the bar to mark his birthday along with his friends, numbering about 16, including ladies. She told them not to pay.

“They took five bottles of Remy Martin, seven bottles of Absolute Vodka and three bottles of Sky. They also smoke cigarettes.

They left around 10pm. At about 1am, four men and a woman came to pick the woman. I insisted that I would collect my money, but they took her away.

“They dropped her off at the estate gate and left. She banged the gate repeatedly. Eventually, her housemaids came to pick her. I was not allowed to enter into the estate with her.”

The father of two children explained that he went to report the case at the Ajiwe Police Division and submitted the bill to the police.

He said the police invited the woman, but her husband sent a message to them that she had gone to Ghana.

“He told the police that Mama G would come back in December 2016. The police sent another letter to the man in December. On January 11, he transferred N200,000 into my bank account.

“I called him and asked for the remaining money, he said I should contact his wife’s lawyer. When I called the lawyer, he said I should manage the money like that.

I reported back to the station and they invited his wife again. Neither the woman nor her husband showed up. Their cook and driver were arrested. The lawyer secured their bail on the same day.

“Since the case was transferred to the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, in February 2017, the Investigating Police Officer in charge of the case has been telling me to be patient; but I have children and a wife to cater to,” he added.

The husband, Mr. Shaw, terminated a call put across to him immediately our correspondent began to make an inquiry on the matter. Subsequent calls to his line rang out.

However, the lawyer, Mr. Onome Okodiya, who spoke on behalf of the family, said it was not true that Mama G promised to pay for the birthday celebration or was forcefully taken away from the bar.

He said the matter was being investigated by the state police command, adding that the N200,000 was paid to the bar manager “in good faith” pending the outcome of a reconciliatory move by the police.

Okodiya said, “We deny that Mrs. Shaw owed that kind of money.

When the barman chose to use the police in Lekki to enforce the debt, we made a report to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the case is being investigated.

We are going to wait for the outcome of the investigation.

“The payment (N200,000) was made in good faith while awaiting reconciliation.

There is a scam which we are trying to unravel. One person is claiming over N700,000; another person is claiming over N800,000.

What is the value of the stock they have? Everybody is under investigation in respect of this matter.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, had yet to reply to a text message on the case as of press time.

Jonathan, from beginning, was too small for the Presidency – Obasanjo

Jonathan, from beginning, was too small for the Presidency – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan from his first days as President showed he  was too small for the office, saying he, Obasanjo, acted more as an opponent of Jonathan than a supporter of Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2015 presidential poll.

Ex President Jonathan and Gen. Obasanjo (Rtd) Obasanjo, who said Jonathan deceived him that he would not give Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke the petroleum portfolio in his cabinet was deceived into believing that he could use money to buy the 2015 presidential election.

Obasanjo in the book, Against the Run of Play: How an Incumbent President was defeated in Nigeria, written by former presidential spokesman, Segun Adeniyi, also revealed that Jonathan was gripped by the fear that Buhari, as president, would jail him or lead him to an early grave.

In the 204-page book, former President Jonathan is himself quoted as saying he could not be held accountable for provocative remarks made by some of his supporters, even as former Senate President, David Mark, is also quoted in the book as alleging that he forewarned the former president about the alleged conspiracy against him in the north but to no avail.

Problems of  minority agitation Obasanjo in the book is quoted as saying that following Umaru Yar’Adua’s death in 2010, he endorsed Jonathan for the 2011 presidential election principally to solve the problems of minority agitation in Nigeria.

The former President said: “I saw the emergence of Jonathan as an opportunity to solve the problem of minority agitation.

The three majority ethnic groups in Nigeria can always sort themselves out but not so for the minority.

A good example is my state here in Ogun. “Despite the best of intentions, nobody from Ogun West has been able to become governor because of this minority issue and it will take a conscious effort to make it happen.

So, it was in the context of that I had to plead with prominent people in the North to allow Jonathan run for a term.

” I warned him not to make Diezani petroleum minister But in a tone laden with regrets, Obasanjo pointed out that there were certain things Jonathan did that fell below his expectations as a former president.

“There were certain decisions taken by Jonathan very early in his administration that pointed to the fact that the office was bigger than him and one of them was the appointment of a petroleum minister,” he said.

According to Obasanjo, he cautioned Jonathan not to appoint Diezani Alison-Madueke to such a sensitive sector but the president ignored his counsel.

“Jonathan gave me the impression that he was not going to give her the portfolio but at the end he did and we can see the consequence.

He, of course, knew what he was doing,” Obasanjo stated.

Why I opposed Jonathan The former president also hinted at what riled him against Jonathan and why he parted ways with him in the run up to the 2015 election, a development which has given the impression that he was actively working in support of Buhari’s candidature.

But Obasanjo denied any direct support to Buhari.

He said: “I didn’t join them in supporting Buhari; I joined in opposing Jonathan so Buhari was just a beneficiary of my opposition to Jonathan since my position was AOBJ: meaning Any Option But Jonathan.”,

Obasanjo explained that Jonathan and his handlers believed that they could buy the last election and that they were so arrogant about it that the PDP would print only one nomination form for him and him alone.

He said: “If he was wise, he would have yielded the ticket to somebody else in the PDP.”

Jonathan was not really afraid about life after office but Buhari

The former president, who also criticised the role played by the military in the last election, said he suspected that Jonathan was not really afraid about life after office but Buhari, his successor.

“I believe the President’s concern or fear is not about life after office per se, because he and I have had occasions to talk about this both seriously and jovially.

I believe the President’s fear is particularly motivated by the person he sees as his likely successor, that is General Buhari.

I believe the people would have been telling him that Buhari is a hard man; he would fight corruption and he (Jonathan) may end up in jail if not in the grave,” Obasanjo narrated in the book.

The book also placed the defeat of Jonathan at the 2015 poll on the utterances of those close to the former president, chief among them being his wife, Patience.

The book recalls the allegation by former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, accusing the former first lady of insulting the North with incendiary language, thereby alienating them from Jonathan during the election.

It quoted Mrs. Jonathan as making a denigrating remark against Almajiri in the north, by saying “Our people no dey born children wey dem no dey count.

Our men no dey born throw way for street; we no dey like people from the other side”, an apparent reference to the concept of Almajiri common in the north.

Reminded in the book that some persons close to him, especially Chief Edwin Clark and Asari Dokubo, were rather vocal and provocative in their utterances, Jonathan wondered why he should be held accountable for their personal opinions.

The former president retorted: “Okay,  let us agree for the sake of argument that Chief Clark and the others were offensive, what about those from other ethnic groups who were also making incendiary statement about my person with insinuations about people who wear bowler hats?

“I am not defending whoever may have crossed the line among Ijaw people but let us  be fair, why should I be held accountable for that and you would not hold other leaders accountable for what politicians from their own ethnic groups also said? he queried.

On why Jonathan lost the election, former Senate President, David Mark, said that he saw the defeat coming and had pointed out the unrealistic voting projections made by the party about the North to the former president and the conspiracy against him but he was not taken seriously.

He said Jonathan should have seen the handwriting on the wall and done something about what was pointed out to him but no action was taken.

Mark lamented, “I saw it and at difference times, I pointed out to him and the party that the projections being made by some people around the president about what the voting pattern in the north would were wrong.

“I could see the conspiracy and the gang-up building up in the north against the aspiration of Jonathan but my  voice was drowned out by those who took it for granted that a sitting president, and one from PDP, could not lose,” Mark said.

The former Senate President also mentioned that the former Vice President, Namadi Sambo, was also aware that Jonathan was not strong in the North but apparently had little to say in the campaign to re-elect Jonathan.

“Some people were deceiving the president with the kind of false scenarios they were painting for him. The VP could see the conspiracy but I don’t know how much influence he had on the campaign.

Why Jonathan couldn’t see it until it was too late is what I find difficult to understand,” Mark pointed out.

Buhari denies harassing Jonathan’s family

Buhari denies harassing Jonathan’s family

The Presidency on Wednesday denied the allegations that President Muhammadu Buhari was harassing members of former President, Goodluck Jonathan’s family.

A statement by the Special Adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, reacted to the headline story in a national newspaper of Wednesday, entitled: ‘Buhari’s Govt Harassing my Family, Says Jonathan.’

According to the report, former President Goodluck Jonathan was said to have made the allegation in a new book, “Against The Run of Play”, written by the Chairman of ThisDay Editorial Board, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi

Jonathan was also reported to have disagreed with the style being used by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in fighting corruption.

The statement reads “We make bold to state unequivocally that President Buhari harasses nobody; he merely allows the law to take its course.

“For the umpteenth time, we say that anybody without a skeleton in his or her cupboard has nothing to fear about the bared fangs of the anti-corruption initiative. Fear belongs only to those who have abused trust while in office.

“Anybody who feels aggrieved is free to approach the courts to seek redress or justice. President Buhari believes in the rule of law and that is why his campaign against corruption is anchored on that plank.

“With regard to President Buhari’s anti-graft style, which the former president deprecates, given the scale of revelations and recoveries so far by the anti-corruption agencies, it is obvious that corruption had an uninhibited course during our recent past.

“In any case, time will give the verdict on whose style of fighting corruption ultimately yielded the most dividends.

For now, President Buhari is resolute and single-minded in the fact that his crusade against graft is not targeted at any individual or group.”

Buhari, the statement said, firmly believed that national interest must always be placed above personal interest, no matter who is involved.

Those Who Accuse Me of Corruption are the Most Corrupt - Jonathan Tells Hypocritical Nigerians

Those Who Accuse Me of Corruption are the Most Corrupt - Jonathan Tells Hypocritical Nigerians

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has replied some Nigerians who still believe that he headed the most corrupt government in the history of the country.

While speaking in an advanced copy of the book, ‘Against the Run of Play – How an incumbent president was defeated in Nigeria,’ the nation's former President, Goodluck Jonathan, said some Nigerians who accuse him of corruption are the most corrupt, adding that those who were quick to make allegations of corruption against other people harboured loads of the virus.

The immediate past president who is often alleged to have supplied the oxygen for the malfeasance in his administration, said; “By virtue of being President of Nigeria, I have come to know so many things about so many people.

“Some of the most corrupt Nigerians are the ones who speak most loudly about corruption. Once you have access to the media in Nigeria, you have the liberty to accuse others of corruption regardless of what you are doing.”

One of the issues for which Jonathan was pilloried was his refusal to publicly declare his assets as the late Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua, his predecessor, did, but in the book, he said it was a matter of conviction for him, and that he had advised Yar’ Adua against it.

Jonathan said; “I remember I told the late President Yar’ Adua that it was wrong to declare our assets publicly and I explained why.

“I told him that the drafters of the law knew what they were doing when they wrote the provisions the way they did, such that assets of public officials have to include that of their spouses.

“Imagine a businessman whose wife was invited into government and she has to declare (hers and husband’s) assets publicly.

I told him that what the law required was to declare and those who have questions can then apply the same law to find out.”

He accused the media of bias for supposedly not harassing President Muhammadu Buhari whom he said did not publicly declare his assets as he promised.

“The same media and civil society that attacked me kept quiet when President Buhari refused to make public his asset declaration form as he promised.

In my own case, I was attacked for not doing what I never promised,” Jonathan said.

The former president also said he dealt with corruption in his administration, citing his sacking of Stella Oduah, former minister of Aviation, after she was indicted.

“You know Stella Oduah played a prominent role in my campaign in 2011.

But when the investigation I ordered was carried out and the indictment was confirmed, I had to relieve her of her position,” he said.

“Up till today Stella hates me for her removal. No doubt, it was a very hard decision for me to take, but that was what leadership demanded.”

Buhari Needs Rest-To Work From Home Not Office

Buhari Needs Rest-To Work From Home Not Office

President Muhammadu Buhari has decided to work on office files from his private residence as he continues in his two-week long rest.

Again, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday stayed away from the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC which held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Similarly, over 20 out of 36 Ministers were equally absent at the meeting.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the meeting.

The Opening preliminaries of Wednesday’s meeting were not short of what played out penultimate Wednesday when the already seated Osinbajo and the Ministers who were expectant of the President, appearing to preside over the meeting got disappointed following Buhari failure to show up.

On the same vein, the meeting did not hold last week. Officials later attributed that to the Easter holiday.

Meanwhile, all expectations that the president would attend yesterday’s edition that featured the acting Secretary to the Government of Federation, SGF, Dr. Habibat Lawan also failed.

At exactly 11 am, Osinbajo got whispers from the State Chief of Protocol, SCOP and thereafter called for the National Anthem and opening prayers, signalling the commencement of the meeting. Journalists were later excused from the meeting which got underway.

Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting that lasted only for two hours, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said that the president couldn’t attend because he needed some rest at home.

Mohammed added that the President has requested that all the files on his table be brought to him, saying he would be working from home.

He said: “We just concluded the Federal Executive Council meeting, I’m sure you noticed that the President was not there. He was not there because he asked that he be allowed to rest and asked the VP to preside.

“And he will be working from home. He has asked all his files to be taken to him in the house. He will be working from home today”.

The Minister also repeated the same to Vanguard which sought more clarification in an exclusive interview.

“He was not in that meeting because the President sent word that he wanted to rest and he wanted the VP to preside over and he asked for all his files to be brought back to him that he will be working from the house”.

Told that there was an air of surprise back in the hall when the Vice President called for the recitation of the national anthem, Mohammed said “that’s your own opinion”.

Also asked whether the government would formally apologize to The Punch Newspaper over the “sack” of its State House correspondent, Mr. Olalekan Adetayo from the Presidential Villa as demanded by the organization, the Minister said that the steps already taken by the Presidential Media aides should suffice.

“I think we should blow a matter out of proportion. The special adviser to the president on Media, Mr. Adesina immediately took a step that reversed that.

I think that is proof enough that this government is not about stifling the press.

“You forget it is the same administration that restored the pass of Dutchewalle Reporter. I am happy with what the media aides have done. I think that settles it”, he said.

BREAKING News: Again Lagos Court Orders Interim Forfeiture of Patience Jonathan's $5.8m

BREAKING News: Again Lagos Court Orders Interim Forfeiture of Patience Jonathan's $5.8m

A court sitting in Lagos has barred former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan from having access to her account containing the sum of 5.8million dollars.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of a Federal High Court, Lagos, on Wednesday granted a fresh ex-parte application ordering the forfeiture of 5.8million dollars belonging to a former First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, according to NAN.

It would be recalled that just yesterday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) withdrew a motion before a Federal High Court Lagos for stay of execution of a judgment which unbarred the account of a former first lady, Patience Jonathan.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun had on April 6 lifted the ban on the account after Jonathan’s lawyer, Mr Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), challenged the propriety of EFCC’s action.

He had challenged the commission for joining her in a suit, which he said, she was not a party to, and urged the court to unfreeze Jonathan’s account.

Dissatisfied with the unfreezing order, EFCC had filed an application for a stay of execution of the order as well as a notice of appeal challenging the judgment.

The two applications, according to EFCC counsel, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, were dated April 6 and filed on April 7.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Tuesday, Oyedepo informed the court of his agency’s intention to withdraw the two applications.

He did not give reasons for the withdrawal. Following the withdrawal of the applications, Adedipe confirmed service of the application for withdrawal on the defendants.

He equally informed the court of his intention to withdraw Form 48 (notice of Committal to prison) and Form 49 (Committal to prison), which he said, was filed against Skye Bank in anticipation of a failure to obey the order of the court.

After the submissions of both counsel, Olatoregun granted the withdrawal of both the EFCC’s two applications and Patience Jonathan’s Form 48 and Form 49 respectively.

President Buhari Writes National Assembly, Seeks Approval to Borrow $5.851bn

President Buhari Writes National Assembly, Seeks Approval to Borrow $5.851bn

President Muhammadu Buhari has requested for the approval of the National Assembly to borrow $5.8bn for infrastructural development.

In a letter which was sent to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and speaker of the house of representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and read on Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari sought the approval of the national assembly to borrow $5.851 billion for the upgrade of various sections of the Nigerian railway.

The president pleaded with the lawmakers to endorse the loan on time in order to make the the country access the China-African fund provided for in the 2016-2018 external borrowing plan, adding that the fund was limited and applications from all over the continent are funded on first come, first serve basis.

The president said these projects form part of the overall plan to resuscitate the rail transport across the country and drive economic growth.

“I wish to refer to my earlier letter with respect to the above subject and to inform the distinguished senate that the China Exim bank has approved our request for a loan to execute the Lagos-Kano railway modernisation project, Lagos-Ibadan segment for a sum of $1.231 billion,” the letter read.

“The China government has also informed us that the approval of the Lagos-Kano railway modernisation project, Kano-Kaduna segment and coastal railway project, the Lagos-Calabar segment are imminent.

“China Exim supported projects; Lagos-Kano modernisation projects, Lagos-Ibadan segment $1.231 billion; Lagos-Kano railway modernisation project, Kano-Kaduna segment $1.146 billion and coastal railway project, the Lagos-Calabar segment $3.474 billion, making a total of $5.851 billion.

“As you are aware the funds available under the China-African fund are limited and loan applications from all over Africa countries are funded based on first come, first serve and therefore there is an urgent need to sign these loans as soon as they are approved or we may loose out in the event that we delayed in signing the loan agreement.

“These loans form part of the overall money for the rail strategy. We are in the process of completing the concession of the port Harcourt Maiduguri line to immediately link the eastern part of the nation.

“We fully intend to source further concessioning funding to ultimately upgrade this critical line to high speed standard gauge. These projects form the overall plan to resuscitate the rail transport across the nation and thereby drive inclusive growth.”

Emir Sanusi Spent a Whopping N37 million on Phone Calls

Emir Sanusi Spent a Whopping N37 million on Phone Calls

It has been revealed that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, spent a staggering N37million just on phone calls alone for three years.

The Kano State Emirate Council has made a shocking revelation in which they confirmed that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II spent N37 million on telephone calls alone since ascending the throne three years ago.

The Walin Kano and Spokesperson of the emirate council, Mahe Bashir, made the disclosure to newsmen while reacting to reports that the Emir spent as much as N6 billion since he was enthroned in June 2014.

According to Mahe, the monarch paid N37 million to Airtel to enable him make calls which most times are international. The Emir came under severe criticism as people rubbished him for preaching what he doesn't practice.

Many have accused him of squandering the money meant for the upliftment of his people while he goes about blaming other leaders for the problems plaguing the northern region of Nigeria.

“It is true that the sum of N37,054,196.06 was paid to Airtel due to the fact that the emir has been identified with only one local mobile phone which he uses within and outside the country.

“Majority of the charges are that of roaming, which is normal. The telephones charges of the palace are paid by the council, particularly when it comes within the provision of the budget.”

Mahe also said that on the advice of the state government, another N142.8 million was used to purchase the Emir’s bullet-proof cars.

“This was as a result of the attack on the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, on his way back from Murtala Muhammed Mosque to the palace.

“The sum of N108 million was paid to the children of the late emir by the council, in respect of the late emir’s personal cars inherited by the present emir.

“The cars now form part of the emirate council’s fleet in the palace,” he said.

Explaining further, Walin disclosed that about N152 million was spent to purchase furniture for the palace because those used by the Emir before Sanusi were removed and given to his children according to Islamic injunction.

He added, “The sum of N152,627,723 was paid to Dabo Gate for the procurement of furniture for the palace.

“After the demise of the emir, all his belongings, including the furniture, were removed and given to his children in accordance with Islamic injunction.”

He added, “The council chartered an air flight twice for His Highness for the following trips: In September 2014 to Sokoto, when the emir paid a traditional homage [Mubaya’a] to the Sultan of Sokoto after his turbaning as Emir of Kano and the council spent N4,651,000.

“In January 2015 for the trip to Benin for his installation as chancellor of the University of Benin and it cost N9,071,000.

All the trips were made a as a result of lack of scheduled flight at that time and it cost the council the sum of N13,722,00 as against alleged N9,071,000.”

How Senator Adeleke's Quack Doctor Practiced Medicine Illegally

The late Senator Isiaka Adeleke has been accused of patronizing a quack doctor who allegedly engineered his death by his careless treatment.

Emerging reports have it that Osun West lawmaker, Isiaka Adeleke might have been alive today if not for the unprofessional conduct of his doctor named Alfred Aderibigbe based in Osun state.

Police investigations are currently being directed at the medical personnel for useful leads to the death of the All Progressives Congress chieftain.

Mr. Aderibigbe, a medical assistant with a community health center in Ede, Osun State, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly causing the death of Mr. Isiaka Adeleke, a senator and former governor of the state, on  Sunday.

The medical practitioner has been accused of practicing medicine illegally and injecting Mr. Adeleke with an overdose of the medication that caused his death.

Aderibigbe was arrested on Tuesday and is currently detained at the State Investigation Bureau of the Nigeria Police in Oshogbo, where he is being investigated.

Preliminary report of an autopsy ordered by the Osun State government and Mr. Adeleke’s family showed that the senator died of drug overdose. Aderibigbe reportedly gave him analgesics intravenously.

Family sources said, Aderibigbe, who is addressed as "doctor," was close to Mr. Adeleke and had been treating him for a long time.

Phone call records obtained from Aderibigbe's phone confirmed that Mr. Adeleke called him on many occasions to wake him from sleep to administer some drugs on him after he complained of pain in his leg on Sunday morning.

A police source earlier today told SaharaReporters that the deadly dose of analgesics was given to Senator Adeleke a few hours before his death, they said they could not confirm if he received any medication to cope with the leg pains as he underwent a series of political and social events he attended on Saturday.

On Sunday morning, he started complaining that he was feeling unwell and sent for Mr. Aderibigbe to come and give him painkillers intravenously, a double dose was administered on the Senator as he claimed that he forgot his pain medicine in Lagos.

Shortly after, he had a heart attack and was later taken to Biket Hospital, a private hospital in Oshogbo,  where he was pronounced dead.

BREAKING News: President Buhari Missing Again at FEC Meeting for the 3rd Consecutive Week

BREAKING News: President Buhari Missing Again at FEC Meeting for the 3rd Consecutive Week
Ministers at the FEC meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari today failed to attend the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, for the third consecutive time as concern continue to grow over his health status.

President Muhammadu Buhari was on Wednesday conspicuously missing at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which is currently being presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

According to DailyTrust, the cabinet had awaited the president's arrival until the State House Chief of Protocols suddenly stepped in at 11.00am and whispered to Osinbajo.

It was gathered that a security officer had also stood anxiously behind the president's official seat in expectation of Buhari's attendance.

The Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa are scanty as only about 20 ministers were seated as of the time journalists were leaving.

Osinbajo kick-started the meeting with a call for the recitation of the national anthem as well as prayers by the Ministers of Education and Health, Adamu Adamu and Isaac Adewole respectively.

Immediately the meeting commenced, ministers were sighted curiously whispering.

Recall that a fortnight ago, Buhari was also absent at the weekly council meeting which also did not last week with the Presidency citing the Easter break, but many Nigerians are of the opinion that the president's health status was the reason behind his missing in meetings.

Two Brazilians Caught Hiding Cocaine Inside Tin Food Cans at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos

Two Brazilians Caught Hiding Cocaine Inside Tin Food Cans at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos

Men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have nabbed two Brazilians who tried to smuggle cocaine into the country at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Two Brazilians who tried to smuggle over 23 kilograms of cocaine into the country have been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

Dias Dos Santos Marcia Cristina, 36, was found with 9.4kg of cocaine in her bag and Lima Pereira Erick Diego, 20, had 14.465kg of cocaine in his bag. The Brazilian nationals, who traveled from São Paulo, claimed to be tourists.

Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesperson for NDLEA, said in a statement that the drugs were carefully hidden in food cans inside their luggage. The total weight of the cocaine seizure was 23.865kg with an estimated street value of N310 million.

Mr. Ofoyeju said that it was the first the NDLEA arrested Brazilians with cocaine at the Lagos airport. However, he explained that the Nigeria-Brazil cocaine trafficking route has gained notoriety over the years.

NDLEA Commander at MMIA, Ahmadu Garba, said that the arrest took place during the inward screening of passengers on an Emirates flight. Officers discovered a white substance concealed in food cans which tested positive for cocaine.

“The tins were factory-sealed such that officers had to cut them open to discover the concealed drugs. Several canned drugs had been uncovered at the Lagos airport in the past,” Mr. Ofoyeju said.

“This development is not a surprise to narcotic investigators because drug cartels are always adopting new strategies of smuggling drugs,” he said.

The NDLEA spokesperson told our correspondent that the anti-narcotics agency concluded arrangements to arraign the suspects in court.

Commenting on the arrest, NDLEA Chief Executive Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah commended the officers for detecting the cocaine and apprehending the suspects.

“This arrest is impressive. It is a clarion call for nations to work harder and deepen collaboration in the fight against narcotics. Collective efforts are required towards making local and international borders impenetrable by drug traffickers and other criminals,” Mr. Abdallah stated.

He assured the Nigerian public that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Buhari’s govt harassing my family, says Jonathan

Buhari’s govt harassing my family, says Jonathan

former President Goodluck Jonathan believes that his family is being hounded by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

He said he lost the 2015 election because he was betrayed by the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Muazu and some Northern leaders in the party.

Jonathan, who made his feelings known in a book, “Against The Run of Play”, written by the Chairman of ThisDay Editorial Board, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, said Buhari could still fight corruption using a different style.

He said: “I feel sad about the way my family is being hounded.”

“Society is like a building. You build it one block at a time. If every president decides to go in to dismantle what his predecessor did, society will never make progress.

I expected President Buhari to correct whatever mistakes I may have made and then carry on from there.

“But a situation in which people go into exile for political reasons is not good for us.”

“His style of fighting corruption is different from mine and since most Nigerians apparently prefer his style, it is okay.

There are steps you take that will help in retrieving ill-gotten wealth and punish offenders while restoring confidence in the system. But there are also things you can do to damage the system.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) got the court to freeze $5,842,316.66 (about N1.7billion) belonging to Mrs Patience Jonathan in Skye Bank.  Justice Mojisola Olatoregun on April 6 unfreezed the account.

The EFCC appealed but yesterday  withdrew its application for a stay of execution of the judgment.

The Presidency declined to react to former president’s claim on the anti-graft crusade.

Presidential spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina told The Nation that he could not comment on the contents of a book he has not read.

On the 2015 poll, Jonathan said: “I felt really betrayed by the result coming from some northern states. Perhaps for ethnic purposes, even security agents colluded with the opposition to come up with spurious results against me.

You saw the way the Inspector General of Police, a man I appointed, suddenly turned himself into the ADC to Buhari immediately after the election.”

“How could we have lost Ondo, Benue and Plateau states if our people were committed to the cause?

If you examine the results, you will see a pattern: in places where ordinarily we were strong, our supporters did not show enough commitment to mobilise the voters.”

“What happened was very sad not for me as a person, but for our democracy.”

“Take, for instance, the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu. I believe he joined in the conspiracy against me. For reasons best known to him, he helped to sabotage the election in favour of the opposition.”
