The body of toddler no older than four months old, that was dumped in a gutter in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, has been found. The corpse was discovered in a gutter at Beebobsco bus stop along Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar.
According to Vanguard, eyewitnesses said they saw the corpse wrapped in a poly bag inside the gutter as they resumed work on Tuesday.
An eyewitness, Eme Douglas, who sells cement close to the scene of the discovery, said she saw the baby when she resumed work in the morning while sweeping the premises.
She said;
“I saw the lifeless body of the baby boy this morning while sweeping our premises, although I did not see when the baby was dropped but I am certain it was in the early of today, I don’t even know who to contact, some security agents have been here but none of them picked the baby,”
James Ibor, a Principal Counsel, of the non-governmental organisation, Basic Rights Counsel Initiative; a child’s right Organization, vowed to make sure the police investigates the matter and bring the culprit to book.
Ibor vowed;
“It is really sad and quite unfortunate that despite the volume of applications by different people at the ministry of Sustainable Development and Social Welfare for adoption of children that somebody could have the guts to commit such sacrilege.
“We will make sure make sure that the police carry out a full investigation into the matter and bring the culprit to book, we will not rest until that child gets justice,”
The corpse is still in the gutter as at press time as efforts to reach the Calabar Urban Development Agency (CUDA), the agency responsible for its removal, proved futile.
