Anti-kidnapping section of the Abia State Intelligence Department in Umuahia have arrested four notorious gangsters for allegedly raping and terrorising market women at Elughu Nkporo in Ohafia Local Government Area and its environs.
The suspects are Ifeagwu Kalu, also known as Eskimo, 34; Nkeiru John Iwuoha, also known as Damage, 40; Chukwu Ogbonnaya, 26; and Onyebuchi Kalu, 24.
It was learnt that the suspects had taken their turn on some village women and some National Youth Service Corps member in the community during their rape escapade.
Southern City gathered that some of the rape victims had reported their ordeal in the hands of the suspects to the State CID in Umuahia, while the hoodlums were arrested by the operatives following a tipoff from members of the public.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, has confirmed the arrest of the suspects.
Oyebade said the women of the affected community had closed their shops some weeks back to protest against the ugly attack and rape in the area by the suspect.
He said, “Some of the raped victims has identified the suspects in custody and the suspects have also confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court.”
He assured Abia residents that the State Police Command would continue to partner members of the public to fight heinous crimes, adding that information given to the police will be treated with the “absolute” confidentiality it deserves.
