The cosmetics industry is a billion dollar giant. More than five make-up can be found in every home on the the average. This shows significantly that at least one in every Nigerian woman owns make-up products.
While the usefulness of make-up is pleasant and has proven effective for the function it was created to many of its user, the effects are the opposite. Various studies and research show that most cosmetic products contain harmful chemicals detrimental to the health of human beings.

1. Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is known to be a human carcinogen. According to research, it is a cancer causing agent and in respect to its widespread use, toxicity, and volatility, formaldehyde poses a significant danger to human health. This known harmful element can be found in most nail polish, hair gel and shampoos.
2. Triclosan
Deodorants
According to research triclosan plays a vital role in disrupting the body’s natural hormone system. It is prevalent in many deodorants, soaps and toothpaste produced today. Humans are exposed to triclosan through skin absorption when washing hands or in the shower, brushing teeth, using mouthwash or doing dishes, and through ingestion when swallowed.
3. Parabens
Lotion
Parabens are a class of widely used preservatives in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. They mostly found in breast cancer tumour and research has it they are a major ingredent in our lotions and ointments.
4. Lead
Lipsticks
Lead is a neurotoxin linked to learning and behavioural problems and can be found in most lipsticks and foundation women use to beautify themselves today.
