APGA writes Nnamdi Kanu, warns IPOB leader not to think himself Igbo “emperor”

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has decried Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, leader, Nnamdi Kanu’s call on Anambra people to shun forthcoming gubernatorial poll in the state.

The party, in a letter to Mr. Kanu, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ifeatu Obi okoye, and made available to the media in Awka on Monday, said the call was irresponsible and devoid of intellectual focus.

It said that Kanu had no authority to speak for the Igbos of the South-East, although APGA acknowledged him as the leader of IPOB.

It explained that Biafra’s concept was a metaphor for the demand for equity and fair play in the Nigeria state and not a separatist movement.

“Nnamdi Kanu’s call for a boycott of elections in the South-East, beginning with the governorship polls scheduled for November 18, 2017 in Anambra is irresponsible, irredentist and totally devoid of any focus.

“You must appreciate that for different logical reasons and perception, the Biafra concept has attracted favourable comments among our people, ostensibly borne out of the marginalisation of Ndigbo in the Nigerian state.
National Publicity Secretary, Ifeatu Obi okoye

“While youths of the East are agitating for Biafra, the Arewa youths are equally restive; the same goes for Níger Delta youths and youths from Oduduwa states.

“In this popular agitation for Biafra, Ndigbo have not instituted a separatist movement or a terrorist gang as it were. We are more concerned about the continued existence of Nigeria under the present structural arrangement,” it said.

The party said that it stood for restructuring and implementation of the 2014 National Conference resolutions “as a certain way to peaceful co-existence among ethnic nationalities and for dousing tension.

It urged Mr. Kanu not to be carried away by the success of the May 30 sit-at-home call, which was attributable to many reasons, including fear.

It demanded a re-visit and implementation of the report of the 2014 national conference, which arguably addressed the parameters for the restructuring of the nation.

The party reminded Mr. Kanu that the right to vote and be voted for was a universally declared right under the United Nations Charter of People’s and Citizenship Right, and in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

It advised the IPOB leader to drop his “emperor” perception of himself “and humble yourself to the true leadership of Ndigbo for a proper and better articulation of the Biafra struggle”.

See the 'Evil' Man Who Killed His Boss and Burnt Her Body After She Turned Down His Love Proposal
The alleged suspect

A domestic worker has been arraigned by security operatives at a Magistrate court for hacking his boss to death for turning down his love proposal.

Some gallant security operatives have apprenhed a 25-year-old man identified as Emmanuel Sibanda, for allegedly killing and subsequently burning the body of his 68-year-old employer after she turned down his love proposal.

According to a report by The Herald, the Zimbabwean domestic staff on Monday, appeared before Gweru Magistrate, Musaiona Shortgame facing a charge of murder.

He was not asked to plead and remanded in custody to July 7 for confirmation of his warned and cautioned statement. Sibanda was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The prosecutor, Daniel Tapfuma told the court that on June 21, Sibanda had a misunderstanding with his employer Mrs Jerina Chipato after she turned down his love proposal.

“Sibanda went on to attack the now deceased by striking her once on her head with a dry log and she fell on the ground unconscious.

The accused went on to drag the deceased into her kitchen hut and set alight the thatched roof,” he said, adding that the woman was burnt to death.

Tapfuma said Sibanda then called out for help claiming that Mrs. Chipato had accidentally been burnt to death in her kitchen hut.

He said suspicious neighbors who responded searched the accused’s bedroom hut for some clues on what could have happened.

“The matter came to light when the accused’s bedroom hut was searched, leading to the recovery of Sibanda’s clothes which were stained with blood.

The deceased’s cellphone was also found hidden in his clothes,” said Tapfuma.

Sibanda, in his warned and cautioned statement, confessed to murdering his boss.

He said on the day in question, he had proposed love to Mrs. Chipato and she turned him down.

She then asked me to go and fetch water at night and we had a misunderstanding and I struck her with a log on the head.

I then dragged her body to her kitchen hut and lit it to cover up the offence since it wasn’t my intention to kill her,” Sibanda said.

Chief of Air Staff in recruitment scandal as North allegedly gets 80 percent slot

Chief of Air Staff in recruitment scandal as North allegedly gets 80 percent slot

A civil rights organisation, Campaign Against Military Impunity, has raised the alarm over alleged recruitment scandal in the Nigerian Air Force.

The organisation alleged that the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, had compromised standards in the recruitment exercise for non-commissioned officers from the core North.

“Presently at the Airforce Base in Kaduna, there is ongoing pre-training formalities and tests for successful recruits, where 80 per cent of them are Northerners”, CAMI said.

Executive Director of CAMI, Victor Coker, told journalists in Abuja yesterday, that the government should carry out an audit of the exercise and courses going on in all the military training institutions.

“To unravel this misnomer, there should be an audit of the courses going on in all the training institutions. The audit should look at the composition and last three batches of those in training”, he stressed.

“They were supposed to take 68 persons in each state; but after the normal recruitment, the Chief of Air Staff now brought over 2,000 names spread across the core Northern States.

“Out of this figure, only 30/40 was given to the South. This is not the first time it is happening. Such things have been done in DSS, EFCC, and even police, Army and the Navy.

Chief of Air Staff in recruitment scandal as North allegedly gets 80 percent slot

“We keep on preaching One Nigeria, One Nigeria. But behind the empty slogan of One Nigeria lies bare-faced hypocrisy and grand design to sentence part of the country to perpetual slavery.”

According to him, Northerners have been so smart to shortchange the entire South even during previous population census exercises conducted by the National Population Commission (NPC),

“How can the desert be more populated than the tropical rain forest? This was how the population census was done before independence”, he queried.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, has denied the allegation.

He said, “I think it is most advisable that the list of the people recruited should be made public first. Then, those making the claims can painstakingly go through the list.

“If there is any state that is not fairly represented, then, let them raise the alarm, rather than be speculating. A list is not yet out, yet people are speculating that the North has been favoured.

“Don’t forget that each state should be fairly represented. If you have certified people and everybody in a state are not medically qualified, are you going to disregard everybody in that state?

“We operate with the highest standards and we do not compromise on standard, either medical, physical or academic.”
